Yeah and he screwed the team when he didn't disclose most of it and continued to play at a highly reduced level.

Did Treliving purposely try to sabotage the Flames? Of course not. Did he make reckless decisions at the expense of the future? For sure. Realistically, it was probably ownership pushing in that direction though, and he had to try and please them. The second he saw the writing on the wall he bolted as fast as he could and I don't blame him.

2. I think we might be the first team in NHL history to pay a team two 1st round picks (and a conditional 3rd) for the privilege of signing an UNRISTRICTED free agent. Especially when the player we signed has never had anything to do with that team ever (ie. acquiring the negotiation rights a week before FA starts, etc).

The trade was terrible for the Flames, but lets not get into hyperbole here. Flames gave up 1st rounder. Monahan re-signing with Montreal to a show me contract is not on the Flames. That's a UFA signing. By that logic, if we trade Tanev for a first, that would somehow be a knock against Vancouver for letting him go UFA.

That's right. The first trade is on Treliving. He was desperate and the trade cost overpay was fairly obvious at the time. The Winnipeg trade is a product of the supply/demand on decent centers, and perhaps, a view that the bottom of the first round isn't that strong. Not sure that is correct, but those firsts weren't as easy to come by last year. Time will tell.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Not sure you can call it reckless when the hockey market for the most part gave the moves a stamp of approval.
Just didn't work out.
And for sure it was a management team with ownership decision in the wake of the Gaudreau exit and Tkachuk trade.
Even your last statement isn't correct from what I've heard. He didn't bolt. He said Sutter or me and Edwards picked Sutter.

Two hip injuries that seize into a locked position when he bends over to take a faceoff seems pretty horrific to me.
Do we know he didn't tell the team? Not sure I've seen that.
The guy was a good Flame and a good person. Not sure he requires insults and drive bys after he's left.

It's good work by the Flames...but also do agree that it's a bit of a panic overpayment by the Jets.
Would be intrigued to know what the Jets offer for Lindholm was though...

Treliving always got so carried away with players having a hot playoff. Brouwer, Neal, Kadri. He just had to have Kadri even if it was costing the team an important 1st round pick. Coleman however has turned out nicely and Kadri has played much better this year.

Must have been a 1st and a lower end prospect. Feel like if it was Heinola/Lambert/Lucious then they would have got him unless Conroy really valued Jurmo and Kuzmenko

Why the eff was he playing?
I loved Monny when he was here. He was made of glass though.
Besides being called Boring Sean Monahan for his entire career here is prob way more hurtful....

Maybe Conroy wants Kuzmenko to continue the playoffs push?

It was great work by the Flames. It was great work by the Canucks.
Flames got maximum assets. Canucks identified the player they wanted, realized he was going to be sought after and then just went out and got him.
I think most teams wouldn't have the type of high upside player to offer like Bustowicsz (formerly BobbyOrrowicsz as stated) that they were willing to part with.

Admittedly, I was a Brad Apologist.
I liked the guy. I forgave his blunders.
GMBT is dead to me now.

Every team has UFAs some up and decisions to make, but the changes he made in the off season before he left had many thinking they'd challenge for the conference.
Didn't happen.
But for sure the man wasn't perfect.
Losing Gaudreau for nothing was a complicated situation, but at the end they got nothing.
I think you can point to contract staggering too, but not sure how much control GMs have on that with each negotiation being unique.
Plenty of criticism for sure, have never had a problem with that. It's the tanked the team and jumped ship BS that had to be countered.

Nice wizarding, Brad. Give Montreal a 1st to take a player who then plays well and ends up giving Montreal another 1st.
