TLDW: Won't give any details, but confirms it has nothing to do with any player's families. This was a "workplace matter" and a "team incident"
edit: later adds that the decision has to do with 'changing the culture' and accountability
said the rest of the players also don't know any details
'internal matter' said a few dozen times
and it's over now
Whatever it is that happened, Davidson is choked. Holding back tears, not just about what happened but also regarding the dumbass rumours that we've been talking about here. I get the impression that this was the main reason for the press conference, to put that stupid #### to bed

I understand "insiders" feeling the need to quash the rumour, but I find the concrete statements they are making to be a little bit funny. There is no way they can really know whether this kind of event happened or not...the proper phrasing would be "there is absolutely no evidence supporting the ugly rumour"

The internet is flooded with a story about your wife, and there is literally nowhere either f you can turn to get away from it, and from the accusations. But that's okay, you can handle it, right?

I feel like that happens on every NHL team. Must have been beyond that or else Bedard should be press boxed for a bit as well

Except they didn't do that at all. All they have done is stoked the rumour mill. Just a bad handling of this situation. It is going to come out anyhow, better to nip it in the bud instead of fueling the rumour mill by not commenting on anything.

Unless Bedard refused to participate, leading to more hazing/ bullying. All speculation but I'm guessing the Hawks would be pretty upset if Bedard got coked up all night, but they would do everything they could to ñot let it go public.

I think that was because he feels like he's wearing not saying anything and it giving rise to the Rumour (TM)
EDIT: RE underage drinking he said there wasn't an element of criminality to it. For what it's worth. And I'm not sure that gets your contract suspended.
