That would be remarkable...but seems unlikely sadly.
Could be fun for fans though!

I asked a Jackets fan I know about this and he said it wasn’t the worst idea because Columbus plays a rush style that would complement Huberdeau’s game more. He did say that he doesn’t see Johnny waiving his NMC to go back to Calgary after how everything went down when he left

I mean he won't come here purely because his wife says so. I don't think he disliked Calgary. But ya know.. "happy wife happy life". But I would do the trade purely because it's the better contract, and who knows he might get Lindy started up again.

Wasn't the rumour that the Gaudreaus miss Calgary?

That would presumably include his wife. Maybe AHS didn't seem so bad after working in health care in Columbus.

There isn't an asset I wouldn't move, aside from perhaps Wolf, to make this happen.

Tired of feeling apathetic toward this team, and Lord knows they won't commit to a proper rebuild. Bring back Johnny and I'll actually give a damn again.

People change. Maybe she doesn't like it there as much as she thought she would. Maybe Johnny isn't as happy as he was in Calgary and she doesn't like that. I know I've made decisions in life and would have done things differently if I had a second chance. It almost as if some people believe other humans are only capable of robotic thought patterns. I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's wrong to act like we know anything beyond speculation.

Could she be the reason they decided to move on from Calgary? Yes. Could she change how she feels now that they have been there for a year? Also, yes. It's also entirely possible that she's as happy as a clam right now, but we have no clue.

I'd take Gaudreau back in a heart beat. I have no problem with how he left, and strictly hockey speaking he's a waaaaaay better fit on the team.

Having said that, I'm on team burn-it-all-down so it doesn't really make sense to do it

Good guy Uncle Jim still supported the Flames after Johnny left.

Gaudreau is going to end up in florida on the left side of a league-best Gaudreau-Bennett-Tkachuk line

We should get a poll for this topic.

Why would Columbus take the two extra years of 10.5 million cap hit? And the extra two years are when Huby is 36-38 years old... has to be like 0% chance they do that, right?

Unless we eat a solid 3 mil on the contract or something dumb. Even then I can't make the numbers alone work. We need to make up ~$27 million in contract value on top of the cap pain of the extra few years.

Listening to Krahn this morning he was saying that Huberdeau needs a shooter like Laine on his line. Ultimately it doesn’t make sense for the Jackets unless Johnny asked for a trade. With his performance, age and cap hit I am not sure how many teams that would be on Johnny’s list that would give up a bunch of value for him. I assume Huberdeau would welcome a ticket out of town but who knows he just bought a house here and is obviously committed long term.

It feels like if it were to happen it would be like Lucic and Neal where 2 teams swap struggling players. Johnny has less points than Huby in the same amount of games. Seeing both guys benched and Uncle Jim’s tweet got me too excited thinking it could actually work but realistically even if the Flames eat $750k-$2M per year those 2 extra years are tough. With that said Columbus struggles like any team to attract star players. Does Huberdeau fit their style of play more? It is far fetched but something that would have sounded totally impossible is now looking like it at least could make some sense for all parties involved.

If the Flames eat enough to bring him down to 9? AAV and add a sweetener who knows.

We know Gaudreau works here with these players so that's worth paying for.

Hopefully Columbus sees something in Huberdeau (from his Florida days obviously)

Are we sure? Only Lindholm is left from his old usual linemates. And Lindy hasn’t looked very good. Who’s the RW?

Lindy and Johnny would probably light it up again. Which would be bad news for the people who want to trade Lindholm for futures. Cause you know ownership would want to keep them together

I still don't see it. Would you take Huberdeau right now if he was making 7.5 million? With Gaudreau, at least Colombus has seen him produce with them last year so they can expect him to bounce back. But Huberdeau hasn't shown anything now for a second straight year. He at least has to have some kind of bounce back before anyone would even consider trading for him. Even then you would have to retain a lot and teams would want to send equal amount of money and length back or make you pay for whatever the difference in contracts are.

Gaudreau got benched for not giving a crap and has 5 points this season. Huberdeau at least cares
