It’s not that hard to believe if he doesn’t want to be here.

For all defenseman for the last three years.
He doesn't have a great shot.
I don't think he has great offensive instincts.
But he contributes to offence through transition and keeping the cycle alive.
You can't just fake numbers like the above.
But you said he sucks so I guess there's that!

Keep in mind this particular poster’s opinion on one Mark Giordano.

They’re already cooked.
Nobody they could trade for would make them better
Just suck and get some good players. It’s how this all works.

Thank God you are not our GM. Hanifin is still highly thought of around the league, he will return a 1st+ no matter what you think of him.

I'm not asking for that or anything like that. I'm also not saying they'll get the best value right now, but I do believe they should and will get good value whenever it is they are traded. You could have non-playoff teams from last year that have gotten off to good starts this year in the mix. You could also have teams that have gotten off to bad starts looking for a shake-up.
I'm not actually sure players like Hanifin and Lindholm will get much more value closer to the deadline, but I appreciate it is possible. It's also possible the pool of interested teams is smaller come the deadline.
It also depends on whether the acquiring team intends to use the player as a rental or if they plan to re-sign.
With all of this, I think it would be smart to trade the players soon because I think the potential of them getting injured exceeds the potential of getting a slightly better trade in 4 months.
|
If that was true then we’d see a lot more early season trades in any year. Cap space opens up in a big way and teams that are in good spots don’t have to subtract from their rosters to add players. Lindholm and Hanifin could be had for 25% of their cap hit if another team is willing to take a pick like we have seen the last few deadlines. If they can get a good deal early on then they should pull the trigger but I won’t be annoyed if they trade them closer to the deadline than anytime soon.

When Hanifin and Lindholm are dealt specifically, there can be any c grade prospect like Sharingovich, coming back. This team lacks high end talent so it’s either a blue chipper or a mid to high first and with options to swap in future years. Enough of this nonsense.

If only there was no salary cap.
Teams simply don’t have the room to make trades today.

Or what - let them walk? The team is still evaluating but obviously the time is short given they've stopped all contract talks. If things continue like this for another week or two, then the team just needs to take the best deal available for futures and look to that future.

What I’m referring to is the flames settling for quantity vs quality. They simply can’t take a deal for the sake of it and sell the fan base on quantity in combination with a C prospect. Conroys future respect as a GM in the eyes of other GMs, and also the fan base relies on him hitting home runs. With teams desperate at the deadline someone will shell out. If it’s c grade prospect by all means let them walk. It won’t happen because they’re quality names but still.

I’m not sure many on here would agree with you on the bolded part. I agree with the rest that they should focus on quality over quantity. Take the best deal you can and move on with life is my view.

Where I disagree is if you settle for c level prospects by not valuing guys, GMs will know they can take advantage of you and you'll give in. Gotta set the bar high or you'll forever be walked on.

Not every deadline is lucrative. Remember the return for Cammalleri?
If they are really moving 4 major pieces, three of them defensemen, I’d definitely like to see Conroy get to work and at least make one move sooner than later.
