I think using Vegas as any kind of real metric for measuring a championship team is dangerous. Not every team can put Mark Stone on IRL and use that cap relief to acquire Jack Eichel and then have them all active at the same time in the playoffs. Couple that with them only having to beat WPG, EDM, DAL (with the Markstorm version of Oettinger) and then a beat up and cooled off Eastern champ that had to sit around for two weeks before the Finals started.
Like, I'm just saying Vegas was good... but they had a lot of things go their way as well. I'm not certain I'd be trying to copy them too much.
I think all cup winners have a few things go their way. Hard not to give credit to any team that only loses 6 games on route to winning a cup. They handled all their opponents relatively easily which is all you can ask.

Which teams did you want them to play? They won the conference so they got the 8th place team (Winnipeg). Edmonton had more points than Los Angeles. Dallas had 1 fewer point than Colorado and Oettinger was way worse against Seattle than Las Vegas. Then they played the team that beat the three toughest teams in the East?
I really like how he is involving his staff in everything so they all have ownership of everything and everyone isn't just agreeing but coming in with their own thoughts.
Kind of troubling to hear how Treliving would just close his door and work alone on a lot of things.
No even close to the most boring. Probably not even top 20.

Just circumstantial, but is Murray Edwards the problem? Seems he wanted Daryl, and a lot of the issues in the past could have been a result of his "opinion", like not trading Jerome, keeping Daryl long past his GM expiry date, and probably more.

It's not that it's boring in the sense that we aren't seeing changes to management. But it definitely has been slow in the trade market. We lost a player and didn't gain anything of equal value. Right now, some of us are just a bit concerned that we are about to see another season with no playoffs, no starplayer to get excited for. I think that's what many thought would happen.

But the swarmy dig at Conroy was over the top given all that's happened and how little is happening anywhere on the trade front.

If the market is weak and waiting for a change, you certainly don't want your GM forcing things to get off the list as the most boring off season in team history!
That's Gilmour and Phaneuf level

I like the Toffoli trade personally, particularly after seeing some other trades. Got a younger player with some upside and another draft pick in a good draft. It creates some opportunity in the lineup. This team is likely going to build back up through a combination of established players and younger players taking a step. At least that is the message Conroy’s makes every time he’s speaking.
A little tidbit that jumped out to me was a comment about Iginla's involvement. Don't remember reading about it in the ten pages above so thought I'd post.
Talked about how involved he is, 20 texts a day, asking a lot of questions, but his example to me was interesting.
"Iggy the other day was asking how many draft picks is too much? Is 15 too much? Etc. I said if they're all Canadian you have to make a lot of decision in two years, less so with college and Europe"
So Iginla is curious ... that's great.
But doesn't that suggest they were discussing a plan to bring in a lot of picks and then questioning if that was too many picks?
Could be an indicator that the bring back established talent idea isn't as firm as some think.
Could be nothing too!
