not sure about a cat, but I fondly remember the "Who is the better Leafs GM - Dave Nonis or a potato?" era. Fun times.

Based on her company, she seems to do a good job of blending the numbers with attributes that can be viewed with your eyes, ie: slot shots, slot passes, etc. Now she would be someone I would hope gets interviewed because she seems to understand the game with data and watching/playing. I just hope she doesn't get overlooked because she's John Chayka's brother is all.
|
My understanding with Meghan is she doesn't really want that kind of role, but who knows, things change
She'd 100% be qualified though, and would probably do very well

This discussion came up the way any topic comes up. Someone said something. someone reacted. We are where we are.
I don't want any biases brought to the decision, but I'm also not naïve, they always are.
I'd be disappointed if the Flames built their own personal checklist of what they want and then looked away from a candidate based on their passport or gender.
But I also won't just assume they did that without evidence, if they hire a white man for the job.
They have a list with parameters and weightings. I expect them to execute the best fit to that list.

Rights of course, but what does 'inclusion' mean? Does it mean that companies need to fulfill some sort of quota for hiring minority groups?

Pull the view back a little more, best person for the job is often influenced by someone's internal bias (prefer someone young vs old or vice versa). Which is something hiring managers should be aware of their own internal bias as they go forward during the search and select.
Also it would be silly to not consider PR/optics in a hire like GM of your hockey team. It's been said theyve talked to Stan Bowman, which comes with a specific amount of negative PR contrasted with hiring someone like Conroy who does't come with that 'baggage'.

Really. No ####. Thank goodness you were able to find some time in your day to expound on this. Frustrating that another thread heads for the ditch with that dumb, short sited Bud Light comment and then we have to have the preaching come to remind us all of how to be virtuous.

Good hockey player doesn't necessarily equal good GM.
That goes for Wickenheiser, Iginla, Conroy, etc.
The difference here is that Conny has spent the last 10 years learning how to be a GM.

There are a lot of companies that do this you just don't hear about it.

It's not about being virtuous. It's about operational best practice. If you find my comments not succent enough or stating the obvious well *shrugs*

I'm sure they do - what I'm asking is what does inclusion mean?

Wick would be a good cost saving move...could fire the team doctors and make her wear both coats.

Yup. "Best person" is such a farce. There's qualified and unqualified and in the qualified group there are a whole host of people with different skills, assets and flaws.

Yeah, but (and I'm sure you know), not everyone is wired for certain roles, and while being GM of the AHL would be very similar to being an NHL GM, there's enough nuance that it isn't surprising if he or the leadership doesn't see a fit.

Inclusion in the Bud Light world means "hey here's a trans person on our beer can". In hiring it means not discriminating against people, and hiring them if they are qualified and otherwise suitable. This isn't hard.
No companies have hard quotas. Many have aspirational ones but those are just reflective of the population.
