While Friedman suggested the Pens would also have interest in Bowman, Seravalli (who has also linked Bowman to the Flames) listed notable names that the Pens have spoken with for GM/POHO and no Bowman.

Oof.

yeah I'm just done if it ends up being Bowman. The tunnel will be devoid of any light, and you've tied yourself to somebody who is linked to the Kyle Beach tragedy. Hard to cheer for an organization that would do that.

The more this goes on, the more I'm pulling for Conroy.

Bowman as the Flames GM gives me vibes of Chiarelli in Edmonton. Feels like it would turn us into a laughing stock pretty quick.

Seravalli seems very, very confident in stating exactly what Bowman and Quenneville knew and when they knew it.

And then he brings up the tried and true second chance argument, as if the only way that someone like Bowman can have meaningful employment is to be an NHL GM.

He sure seemed to be going out of his way to carry water for those two.

He certainly wouldn't be my first choice but at least he would bring a different approach to what we have seen and you would think that if he came in he would want to make big changes which is what I think we need. Whether those changes would improve us or not, who knows and that is the problem we are in with how the team is currently constructed I am not sure anyone can fix this mess.

He is a lot like Treliving. Make a lot of moves that look good but were never really good.

At least we would get an active GM

I'd be ecstatic with Dubas. A young, smart guy. He built a strong team in TO, learned from some big mistakes and I think will be a coup for the next team.

I'd be very surprised if he isn't top on the list for DM.

I think Dubas was always the target if leafs let him walk… Conroy is the backup plan.

Would Dubas want to work for Edwards? I get that there's only 32 jobs but I don't think the Flames job is considered highly desirable relative to other organizations.

The team is built around high picks though. Outside of Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Reilly, all high picks, what good moves have the Leafs made to surround them with talent? Will he get the same chance here to add those elite talents with high draft picks?

Maybe Tavares, but I think it is worth asking if that money could have been better spent and he came in because of the City not Dubas, the other moves to build the team have been pretty poor overall.

The team has consistently struggled to get the goaltending right, consistently struggled to get the defense right and consistently struggled to get scoring outside of the top players.

Dubas is up there for top candidates if you want to bring someone in and give him a big window to work with. I'm more partial to having management teams stay in place for longer periods and leaving more of the personnel turnover to the coaching and player level. He seems to tick off a lot of boxes for who I think the Flames want to target. Young, progressive-thinking, experience in the league and has existing relationships with other organizations. I'm sure if you had a candid conversation with him he'd tell you there are moves with the Leafs he'd have approached differently.

The more I think about it, the less thrilled I'd be to see a green GM try to navigate what the Flames have ahead of them over the next couple years. I think the experience aspect is going to be major.

Now, whether Edwards is willing to pony up and pay a GM is another thing. Especially when you're already paying Sutter to stay home.

Dubas made some mistakes as any GM did, but nothing was catastrophic. There are no long term deals where the Leafs are stuck with it, maybe aside from Tavares (but that's two more seasons). I was super critical of Dubas early on but he's learned from his mistakes early on. I give him and Shanahan credit for going for a completely skilled lineup and bucking the trend though it didn't work. Now he's learned from it and he'll assemble an inside and outside team. Leafs would be making a huge gamble to let him go in favour of someone else. They really are close here. They just need a terror in the slot, and maybe another d-threat to move the puck up, but I really think they're there.

How has he shown that now after not doing so the previous six times?

Has Toronto decided not to extend Dubas yet, or is it Dubas that has not committed yet? I am just wondering if it is a Treliving situation there, or if it is the team that is having cold feet about him.

He did build a more gritty team with the moves. It probably wasn't needed and took away the identity of the team.

If the rabid narrative builders in T Dot (Media) are to be believed , this group needed to go to the CF at minimum to stave off any bloodletting. Winning 1 game in round 2 probably did little to move the needle to save the axe from falling.
