Kadri was for sure. Huby was awesome last year on the Panthers.
Thing is they were awesome secondary/complementary players. In both cases, they were playing behind absolutely elite top lines.

Sometimes they get too negative for my liking.
Rhett makes it sound like a chore to follow the team (which, to his credit, it is), but if he wants a regular gig doing it, he's got to reel it in a bit and try to find some balance. Going off the rails every week gets a little stale, even if he's not wrong.

Huberdeau led the Panthers in scoring by 30 points
that's some pretty good "secondary scoring" lol

You're not wrong, and it's crazy to me that we have 17.5M sunk into those two.
...but it's also the MOST Calgary Flames thing ever. We've done it so many times (maybe not quite to this insane degree), it !@$^ing hurts.

The Edmonton series showed me that last years team was on the top line, not Sutter.
He couldn't adjust against an overrated team that has one strategy.

I know we tend to endlessly mock them (deservedly so), but the Oilers REALLY show how you have success in this league - because despite their ineptitude in constructing a full roster, they're still way better than us and that's all on the backs of two supreme talents.
You need supreme talents to win in this league. Even if you screw up the management of your team (like the Oilers), having supreme talent will still get you to a certain level of "success".
If you have supreme talents AND you're a well run organization? Well, that's how you really win. You can't have one without the other and expect anything of note though (ask the Oilers)...so, this team needs to sell it off, burn it down, revel in the agony of a few years at the bottom, and then build it new.
This team has had one good playoff run in 30+ years...it's time to change how they do things.

oh god, now you have gone too far
they won FOUR draft lotteries including the best player in years...they tried to win and ####ing fluked out
even then they are a 3 seed in a bad division despite McDavid's historic year. Success?
I bet the Kings beat them pretty easily in round one TBH

Do you think this franchise has the luck to land an elite franchise generational player in the draft? Honestly? We are all life long fans and know that luck and the Flames are not something that goes together. I'm all for a rebuild but I'm not expecting us to land a Bedard. We will end up with good players who demand trades or are made of glass.

Flames would totally end up with a Buffalo rebuild or worse

Best just to not do it then. Because that’s working out so well.

They haven't built a good team. They have a mediocre supporting cast booned by two guys that they happened upon for sucking.
This will be exposed in the playoffs.
LA (their likely 1st round opponent) is a better all around team, and have more depth.
McDrone is a special one though (although no credit for that goes to Edmonton)

Yes, a few . Jg was up their, Tkachuk is going to have another 100 point season , Fox seems pretty good and won a Norris already. ST. Louis was a franchise player etc etc.
Flames can draft them no problem just can't/won't develop them or they just don't want to be here. Seems like a ownership problem .

Buffalo with a couple good offseason moves will be good in short order.

Rhett's been right about everything all year. Doesn't get stale for me at all. If you liked them as a morning show it's almost exactly the same just less ad breaks.

I don't wanna spend too much time on coulda woulda shoulda but the sequence of events if
Tkachuk traded for Eichel I think is a possibility,
Would Johnny re-sign playing with Eichel
Then we wouldn't have 6 more years of Kadri
Then we wouldn't have 8 more years of Huberdeau

Did you read my post? I said I'm all for it but don't expect to land a generational player as only one team every few years does and the Flames franchise doesn't get that kind of luck.
I honestly see people assuming that 5 years is all it takes and that would be lovely but it's not always the way it goes and I'm not sure that a lot of this fanbase (CP posters included who are pushing for it) are prepared for the fact it might drag on a lot longer or be u successful.
I watch the game against the Ducks last week and the Ducks were boring as hell. It's not fun to watch a bad team like that and I wonder if people will still go to games and support the team with how fickle and hostile this market has been this year with a team right in the mix receiving some very questionable goaltending.

Huby was their second worst player in the playoffs though, did nothing.
