Winning is now detrimental to improving this team. I know that sounds stupid, but that's how the rules are set up.

That's how the standings and draft order work, sure.
Not necessarily how the mind of a fan works.

Sometimes I wonder if losing on purpose does long term cultural damage to a locker room.

Losers cheer for better draft position
We have a glaring example of that just a few hours drive away
Thats all I have to say about that

I don't know if this is sarcasm or not, but yes I said it weeks ago that I hope the Flames acquire a power forward for the purposes of playing him with Huberdeau. I was one of the few who thought he actually looked pretty good with Lucic and I know people don't want to hear it because Looch is a very polarizing player and topic at this point.
But yeah, I think Huberdeau works well with a power forward type who can do the dirty work, be a net front presence, open up space and someone who can consistently make plays along the wall/corners on both ends of the ice to drive the transition and cycle game. Thought Ritchie made 3 or 4 of these very subtle, but very effective high IQ plays yesterday that caught my eye.
It's going to be very interesting watching how this new line plays in slower, more tight checking contests. Feel like the Stars' system has deviated quite a bit going from Rick Bowness to Peter Deboer, so the pace of play between the 2 teams is much higher than in the past. Think Ritchie could be even more effective in those types of matches so it might bode well for this line going forward. Time will tell though.

Did you watch the game? If you can’t enjoy watching your favourite team in any sport playing a game and winning, what’s the point in watching at all? Just check the standings every week.
It’s not like fans can control the draft position or anything else, so might as well enjoy the actual thing we’re all apparently fans of. If the Flames go on a run and fall just short, ending up both out of the playoffs and with a worse pick, that’ll be disappointing overall, but it takes nothing away from enjoying the hockey itself.

Cheering for losses when you are mathematically out is fine
The Flames still have a 25% chance to make playoffs . While I don’t believe they will , until that hits low single digits I sure am not hoping for losses

Interest waned quickly after game 40 or 50, so no I didn't watch last night and have just been watching the standings. To me, this season is already a write off, so we may as well tank as best we can.
In fact, I was for a total rebuild when Johnny left. But since they traded for Huberdeau and Weegar and signed Kadri, it was obvious they still were going for it, which proved to be a big mistake.

The Flames and Oilers have won the same amount in the last 30 years, despite the Flames doing it the "right" way and Oilers actively tanking.
But they have McDavid and Draisatl who at least will entertain the crowd.

I mean, if the Flames were bottom 3, and each win/loss had a material impact on their lottery odds, then sure, I would be less inclined to enjoy the win.
But where they are in the standings currently, they are likely picking between 12 and 16, no matter what happens. And that being the case, they probably end up with the same player, regardless. So might as well enjoy the excitement and the Ws.
And that doesn't even factor in the (still minimal) chance of sneaking into the playoffs.

This doesn't make the argument you think it does. The Oilers have tanked for the better part of 30 years, and are no better off than the Flames, other than having a couple 'exciting players' to show for it.

They're trying to replicate the 12-14 Kings. To do that, they need .920 goaltending and they need to be top-5 in GA.
They get good goaltending next year, they're a playoff team.
They get elite goaltending, they're a threat to win it all.
They are the 2nd best shot-suppressing team in the league - 27.19 shots against per game.
Carolina: 25.98 (2nd GA, 11th GF, 1st in Metro)
Calgary: 27.19 (17th GA, 17GF, 5th in Pacific)
Seattle: 27.73 (17th GA, 6th GF, 3rd in Pacific)
Finish strong, boys. Secure that top-10 pick. Make sure you walk away with at least this draft's Mike Richards, preferably Ryan Getzlaf, and not Dion Phaneuf.

The Flames have been losers for 30+ years. Maybe time to employ a different approach.

My point is if the "the different approach" is to cheer for losses, I don't want any part of it.
because that will get depressing quickly.

Both Alberta teams are a joke from the past 30 years .
Let’s start setting our sites higher then the Oilers .

Well, in that case nobody expects people to enjoy games they didn’t watch, so I don’t know why you would ask why you “should” enjoy it.
I don’t actually know why you’d care at all about results of games you have no interest in watching.

That is the most Oilersy post I have ever seen a Flames fan make on calgarypuck.com.

The Oilers tried to win, failed, and won lotteries
like do you go to a lottery winner for financial advice?

I have no problem with complaining about things like:
- lack of talent
- lack of effort
- perceived poor decisions
- bad trades
- poor player development
but
I just cant fathom people being disappointed with wins
I suppose some just need to bitch

I really want us to build up through the draft, because that's how you get game breaking talent, but damn it if beating the Stars didn't feel good. Logically I know it's better for us to just lose out, but on a game by game basis, I want to see wins because they're more fun. I'm cheering for wins, but no longer disappointed by loses.
Maybe my attitude will change it we get to game 78+ and we're within a few points of a top 5 pick.
