I don't disagree Stecher might be the 6th going forward, but what's Gilbert supposed to be doing that he's inconsistent on?
That was guess on my part in an effort to understand why they traded for Stecher. It could also be that big Z hasn't been as good since he lost his playing partner who signed in Columbus.

I could see that for sure. I am still not sure why Sutter insists Zadorov gets put on the ice in big game situations.

Coulda woulda shoulda. TDL is over, just one focus now, play to our potential. We haven't strung together any type of good win streak and analytics does favor us to a degree and we're kinda due. Last season from Jan 24th-Mar 12th we went on a stretch of 18-3-1 which included a 10 game winning streak. I'm just gonna roll with it.

Their goaltending is good enough to have the team with the 2nd best GAA in the league.

Any team could use a Lindholm or a Backlund, but I doubt either player was available.

So...its a process then?

I dont even know why anyone cares about Kylington coming back this season. Its over. Let him sort himself out and come back when he's ready, there is no point in worrying about getting him back for 20 meaningless games.

That being said about Kylington though...so the Flames get to slide a year of his contract?

He was getting paid, but didnt play, does he owe the Flames another season? What are the rules around that?

Should've taken a page out of Nashville's playbook. They could've made an absolute killing on tues/wed and loaded up.

Jay Feaster wasn't a philosopher, maybe not even a proper GM, but damn it if that man wasn't exactly right when he went on about intellectual honesty.

The faith in the group extends beyond reason. And it's like no beatdown can give them enough proof to convince them otherwise, even though it's happened again, and again.

Sure, they might have a higher ceiling than they've shown.. but it's not that much higher. It's nowhere near the Colorados and Tampas of the world. And they'll have no flexibility going forward. How do you expect to get yourself on that level?

You can't.

They tried and the chemistry experiment failed. Own it, accept it, and do what must be done.

They're living in a dream world.

Can’t believe we couldn’t unload one or two vets for picks. I thought Zadorov, Lewis, even Lucic would be good depth pick ups for a playoff-bound team.

Or, be bold and fetch a ransom for Hanifin, Toffoli, or Lindholm.

Sigh. What a disappointing season after so much hype in the offseason. The team seems rudderless at this point.

I’ve always been a Treliving supporter on this site, and I’m not suggesting he should be fired. But I wouldn’t be sad to see him go. I expect he will step down after they are officially eliminated.

I think Carolina's best goalie is Kochetkov, who's stuck in the minors with a 13-4-5, 2.34, .912 at the NHL level.

I’ve never liked Zadorov…I call him “Lurch” for obvious reasons….hoped he would be traded.
Been a season ticket holder since 2002….can’t see spending another dime on this group.
I have no answers, but this team has been the most frustrating group I've ever seen.

Flames have a lot of old guys. They are the Flames ride or die guys that deserve one more year. If it does not work out next year they can retire or sign somewhere else and the Flames can regroup. You have to think next year around the deadline they will be close to a playoff spot, so the Flames can give them one last chance at greatness before they move on.

To what end?

Like if Lewis fetches a 6th round pick, that's something you thought was worth doing?

And if you trade Hanifin, Toffoli or Lindholm, you've just made the team worse next year, while still ensuring they aren't a bottom feeder. What's the point? It makes no sense.

Burns has a 5.3 million dollar cap hit and is on pace for 60 points, I am sure they are fine with him.

Tre's statement that they looked at the long term is false.

Assets are worth more at the TDL than at the draft when teams fall in love with picks. The scenarios I see are as follows:

1. This team rebounds with either Sutter or Tre out of the picture and then rides the F/As to free agency. At this point you will have to pay a bunch of old players to try and hang onto a closing window.

2. The same team sucks next year and you trade these players for a fraction as they are pure rentals. For years after we will hear the same Iggy chatter....if only they had sold Backlund, Lindholm, Hanifin, Tofoli a year earlier...

3. They can't extend anyone until after the draft...when teams are already filling their rosters with free agents.. At the draft they won't trade anyone for picks because "they are negotiating" and when they try to sell after free agency, only a small number of teams will have cap space...Ie. reduced values.

4. They actually sell at the draft (at least some players) for values lower than what they would have gotten today.

Worst of all..either Sutter/Maloney or Conroy is making all of these trades/signings...or a new guy who doesn't know the team and probably doesn't have a good feel for value yet.

Last years regular season was probably one of the best timeliness as a flames fan...this is probably one of the worst.

I think it will be number one. They will be a wildcard team at the deadline next year and won’t be able to trade any players. I think they will make the playoffs, though they could fade down the stretch. Assuming they make the playoffs they will put up a valiant fight but lose in 6 in the first round.

I think the two posts above are spot on.

It's bad asset management. I don't see how anyone can honestly say it's looking to the future when it's bad under basically every scenario that can unfold.

Team committed to Sutter, Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar and Markstrom long term.

Does it look like a team that want to sell and rebuild?

They are hoping for a rebound. The most changes they are going to do is adding some 4th liners and bottom pairing dman until some of these guys leave for UFA

I wanted the team to sell but I genuinely don’t get why people are mad with the moves that did happen. They’re low risk trades that most likely won’t pan out but doesn’t hurt the team in the long run. I think the fate of the 2024 UFA’s will be decided this summer or by the deadline next year

Lucic has negative value, Lewis may be worth a 7th, Zadorav had some value for sure.

But the Flames are not conceding, I’m not sure what rock you are living under.
