Nah, I think when a guy is getting $7mm plus, we can expect more than 50-60 points. That should be the goal, at least. I think people are letting a lot of lazy nights off the hook because he usually puts up lower point totals. He did well at the start of the year and it was unlikely he’d keep up that pace, I understand that, but we also didn’t have to have this guy delve into completely disinterested floater dude for the last 30 games either.

I think you’d be lying if you’re not disappointed. Just be honest, he’s not been what we hoped.

5 losses in the last 6 home games when the season is pretty well on the line, right? That's a team that isn't going to do well in the playoffs, let alone make them.

This team is just so unlikeable and the season has been the worst in memory. I truly hope they make some massive changes.

Every kid on the AHL squad probably outcompetes every “vet”.

Hearing Coleman say "we're a really good team that doesn't know how to win" just goes to show how lost this team is.

They aren't.

They got destroyed in the playoffs last year by a better team - a team that is not a great team.

They've been destroyed in tight hockey games all season long. The number of a 1-goal losses shows that this team is not capable of winning close games.

As far as I can tell this team is loaded with old, expensive "veterans" who are outright delusional. The idea that they're half a goal on either side of the puck away from being a great team is true...but a half goal difference on either side of the puck is the difference between the 32nd overall team and the 1st. It's a chasm.

Age is definitely a factor. Enough dinosaurs on the 4th line also. Speed, youth and strength. Enough dinosaurs altogether. If the guys you have aren't hungry go get some that are.

Look at the rope the 4th line has got.

Look at the rope any young player has.

Tell me with a straight face this is a meritocracy. Ask yourself why it isn’t.

Corrected.

It doesn't make it any less incorrect. Winning is what makes you a good team. Yeah, I'm sure they do believe they're a good team...that's what pros do, but it's still a stupid thing to say. It should be "we believe we're a really good team" not "we're a really good team that doesn't know how to win"

That's a statement that invalidates itself within the sentence in which it was stated.

...and this is a stupid thing for me to pick at, but this entire season has been stupid.

If 'a Lindhol' is some sort of performance-enhancing drug and a term that the kids are using these days, then yeah, that might help.

It seems so obvious that this team lacks leadership on offense. Problem is that you can't easily sign those types of players as UFAs. Need to trade for or draft them.

I know this is too easy of an excuse but they have been incredibly unlucky this season. Has to be better next year.

And by trade or draft them you mean draft them. Which means you need picks. Which means you need futures. Which means you have to trade current players for futures.

Also, the best deals are between now and 3pm est tomorrow, and Brad likely ####ed it up by screwing around waiting until just yesterday if you follow the other thread and insider info.

Well that was an annoying game to attend. My hatred for Leafs fans is renewed and more intense than ever. Sorry Gio, I'll be cheering for Tampa.

I've made peace with this season. It's been a bad one. Personally, I don't think the roster is bad and I expect that they will be competitive next season regardless of what happens tomorrow, but I truly hope that management recognizes they have a great opportunity to sell a few pieces at exorbitant rates and takes advantage of it.

I want to see a top 9 forward moved out and Coronato signed at the very least. Turn the focus to next season and give us something to hope for. Washington and Nashville have shown the template, Flames need to follow suit

I really think a couple smart moves could really change the fortunes of the group next season

but we need more youthful enthusiasm in here and more importantly, a leader (not Sutter)

Agree. That seemed like a multi-season low for the dome. So many Leafs fans with way more faith in their team than the home fans. Even though we know what's been happening all season we had some hope early but once that 2nd Leafs goal went in it was over.

If there's any reason to make some changes now it might just be to give fans some hope for next year. Picks, prospects, whatever.

Oh, and huge props to Markstrom tonight

That was prime Jacob Markstrom. No faulting from me. The pie on the face belongs to the skaters tonight. Sutter asked, and he delivered. He can be proud of that effort. Hopefully he builds off it

Step 1 has to be removing Sutter. Since last all star break it's been clear his style of play is outdated, and in this league you now need to lean on your better players and aggressively line match. Rolling 4 lines only works if you are a stacked team, which the Flames are not.

Sutter's over reliance on old and slow vets that he likes, combined with a complete refusal to mix up lines that clearly aren't working has sunk the season.

Lucic's night should have been done after Marner absolutley embarrassed him for the tying goal. That play from a rookie would have them sent to the AHL.

Move Tofolli tomorrow and retain 50%. recover a first round draft pick and see how they finish off the year. Call up anyone and let Lucic and Lewis sit the rest of the season.

I actually don't hate a lot of things Sutter has done with this group

His greatest fault of all that does it for me is his refusal to adapt, especially in the moment

I think he's still good at many things, but his bench management in game has fallen off significantly (he used to be one of the best at it)

He might see what's wrong, but tries things that don't work for too long, and he senselessly over-utilizes players for illogical reasons of his own

It's the stubbornness and inflexibilty that sours me on Darryl, even though most of the rest is solid

I think that's always going to be his downfall
