That's been the case every single game this year. He played on the second line last year. Maybe he's an elite player behind the alphas. Nothing wrong with that, but that isn't what the flames need or is worth the price tag.

I'm 40, I want to see the flames win a cup before I die. His contract could be the reason the next decade could be a waste. I have every right, as a fan, to be annoyed...
You're younger than me, but I feel like I've got another 40 or so years yet, so I'm counting on a couple more cups!
####, man, as far as I'm concerned they are still in on the next available Cup.

I'll let this season play out and go from there.

They're a veteran team with potentially good goaltending, elite coaching, and underperforming skill players. Still time to gel, add they right deadline acquisition and go on a run.

GFG!

Calls against the Flames were fine.
It was the non calls vs the Leafs that were nowhere near the same standard.

Maginpane cross check in first and Backlund gets a call 2 mins later.
Kadri taken down obviously and him yelling at the ref. Huberdeau by Gio just before the 4-4 goal against.

Sutter is right in pointing that out.

Yeah, it's definitely not off to a great start...but also, Lindholm hasn't been stellar, and Toffoli isn't fast enough to create rush plays...and look at the play tonight. Huberdeau makes plays at pace. Perhaps grinding the puck in the corner endlessly isn't the best offensive strategy for great players?

When players come here and all of a sudden don't perform...it's not always on the player exclusively. There's more to the formula.

wouldn't you be a team getting "screwed" if you're in the upper left quadrant?

so the Flames, Habs and Hawks are the teams getting called but not getting the calls

while fortune has smiled most on the Sabres, Rangers and Caps

I'd love to get more games like Vegas is getting ..

while Edmonton doesn't stick out we know they get the best timed penalty calls as game management rarely doesn't step in to give them a boost when they are behind

They talked about how Huberdeau is an east-west player on the broadcast tonight. That was my recollection of how he created offence as well. Toffoli May be the least compatible forward for scoring off off the rush. Kinda of an odd couple to play together.

Sutter has always been consistent when questioned about the officiating. It's not the calls it's the non calls.

If the score, zone time, shots, possession are all fairly even there's no reason for the penalties to be so lopsided. There are no completely clean teams, and the broad street bullies are ancient history.

Neat observation: when Kadri scored, and his name was announced, it felt like everyone in the building was clapping. Every leaf fan around me was clapping.

I think I'd go with Vladar. Markstrom seems to struggle against any team based in Canada. He has a winning record against only one Canadian team, Vancouver.

I think I would make two changes to the lineup against Montreal

1) Markstrom for Vladar
2) Mackey for Stone

This didnt age well.

Edit. still in a playoff spot. Wild bounced the Avs in the Central. 2 points up, but Avs have 3 games in hand.

A few thoughts:

Huge Lucic fan but Zohorna and Phillips are both big upgrades. Keep them.

We can whine about the refs all we want, and they were bad tonight, but the penalties that killed us at the end of the game were all legit penalties. Completely undisciplined and lucky to escape with a point. 3 power plays in the last 10 minutes of regulation and OT for the Leafs. That’s gonna bite most teams.

Other than the penalties I thought the Flames played a solid game. Really entertaining to watch.

Thought Andersson had a rough night though. I’ve seen much better from him.
