Mackey has played 31:25 so far this year, 5 on 5

He has been on the ice for 5 goals against. That is a GA/60 of 9.5

I would be the first to say that is an extremely small sample size, however, I have not seen much that is promising from those 31 minutes, and there has been a fair bit to be concerned about.

I sure hope he can right the ship.

Andersson was Mackey's 3rd different D partner in a span of what... 1 or 2 days? Mackey had a bad game without a doubt, but I think it's a bit premature to be giving up on him this quickly.

Mackey looked his best last year in San Jose when his partner was Tanev.

Tanev might be the most underrated player in the NHL. I thought it might be a bad singing but I was dead wrong he's a massive piece to this teams success.

Tanev reminds me of Hamrlik when he played in Calgary. Not overly flashy, but a rock for any younger/inexperienced/risky D man, giving you way more options for Dman pairings.

Situation matters a ton for defensemen - much more than for forwards, it seems. Who your partner is, quality of competition, situational utilization, and coach/systems, impact a defenseman's performance significantly. Sure, there are guys who can look great in any situation, but that is a reflection on their talent more so than it is the norm.

Let's hope they can find a partner and a role for Mackey, because so far, he is a fish out of water. Personally, I think it is because he just can't process the game fast enough to be efective at the NHL level, but I hope I am wrong and he can get it together.
