Last season was a weird one in many respects, including that. It was the first time we've ever seen the playoff race in a conference settled before Christmas, with eight teams padding their win totals while the other eight sold off assets and quit trying. I believe the 16-point gap between 8th and 9th was the largest on record since conference seeding began. It was certainly the first time that all eight playoff teams in a conference had 100 points.
In the previous 10 full (82-game) seasons, going back to '08-09, an average of 9.7 teams finished with 100 points or more, and never more than 12. I don't think it will take 100 points to make the playoffs in either conference this year.
