Making it clear that it was about 'family' took 27 other teams out of contention for even wanting to sign him.
I go back to my earlier point. NHL players move their families closer all the time. Many players have their elderly parents living with them.
This entire situation stinks.

Well that's unexpected. Eastern time zone, 1.5hr flight home, but travel is pretty much the same as the Flames ( https://twitter.com/danmorse_/status...689988/photo/2). Have to think either this was the best deal closest to home, or he didn't want to sign with rivals to Philly. Can't remember where I read this, but recall there was a player who didn't want to sign with a home town rival because it would make it harder to sign with that team in the future.

No information we have suggests that’s the issue. Especially the tweet from Gross saying Flames did what they could, it was about family.
This drastically changes my thoughts on Gaudreaus motivations, but his choice I guess. Did he really just want to live in the states? If it’s about dollars, is the tax situation that much better in Ohio? Probably can be when you factor in the annual, but can’t be with the extra year can it?
