I can't believe how bad this presser is. This is almost Lowe + McTavish bad.

This press conference.
Wow. Someone get Holland off live screen for good, there's no coherence there.

It's also reflected in his play as this is a miserable stretch of hockey for him.

You know I have noticed his body language as well, he looks frustrated and out of answers. But truly it's up to 97 if he wants to win in the NHL. McDavid is a hockey freak. He's tall, incredibly strong on the puck. can skate like the wind, when he has the puck he does things that no one in the league can do. But he just doesn't care when he doesn't have the puck. We all see it, it's obvious. He has the ability to be a Ryan O'Reilly or a Bergeron and then some. If Johnny Gaudreau can back check on guys twice his size and tilt the ice 5 on 5, then someone with 97s skillset can absolutely do it. So he can be frustrated that his teammates aren't getting it done, or be frustrated with the goalie, of maybe even eventually demand a trade, but right now he is the one wearing the C. He sets the tone, and his bread and butter is PP goal cellys, high speed 1 on 3 drives towards the net that sometimes result in highlight of the year stuff, and he thinks he has done his job. Until he realizes the only thing better than points is wins then he will continue to be frustrated. Not sure what coach will be able to get that out of him, people don't often change.

Holland and the Oilers really are a match made in heaven. And here I thought Chiarelli was a gift.

The culture problems on that team are his responsibility, and from what I can intuit from interviews, play, etc. it is a responsibility he does not want, but is stuck with.

This is exactly right... I said it when they named him captain. In Edmonton's rush to name him the youngest captain ever in the NHL, they never stopped to ask the question about if it was a good move, in Edmonton, that doesn't matter, having the "youngest" or "fastest" is almost like winning, they can raise another banner to the rafters as having the youngest captain in NHL history - that was the objective - if McDavid was a good captain or not... it didn't matter.
But now how do you fix it? The answer is that they can't... they can't take the 'C' away from Connor until they trade him, or plan to trade him, or lose him to free agency. The only other way is to wait until Connor is older and nearing the end of his career... my point is, to fix the mistake, they have to lose him. It's really sad... because there was no reason at all to name him Captain in the first place. Your best player doesn't have to be Captain... or even an assistant Captain, Johnny has no letters. There is no rule that your best or highest earning player has to be captain, Jordan Staal is the Captain in Carolina, MacKinnon (a stretch I know) in Colorado. McDavid strikes me as a guy that wants to come to the rink and play... he doesn't want to lead. I think Iginla wasn't the best captain choice, but he was certainly better than McDavid.

Nicholson and Lowe remind me of Marty and Wendy Byrde from Ozark except that Nicholson is only Marty's unaware personality but without any of the skills to actually do the job...and Lowe is the meddling spouse around finding ways to have everyone around them killed both directly or indirectly. Holland appears to be like the realtor who they keep conning into losing money to serve their agenda. After they ruin him...they'll just find another unsuspecting citizen.
