Pat just mentioned that Valimaki is waiver exempt. Is this new news? Thought I read that he would have to pass through waivers?

IMO, the best thing that could happen to Valimaki would be to play 24- 26 min / game in the AHL for 15-20 games.

Agreed. If that is an option then I don't know what he is still doing in the press box. I could have sworn a few CPers had a big argument about that and it was shown on cap friendly that he was waiver eligible.

I texted Pat just now and he confirmed he is waiver exempt. I wonder if the Flames actually knew this.

I also thought Monahan was quite a bit better tonight. His skating still looks a little awkward sometimes though. Lets hope he continues to improve.

And lets not forget, that was a game tying goal in game 4 of the regular season.

One of the biggest reasons the Flames have found so much success so far.

Sure.
I also trust Sutter explicitly.

Valimaki is still here for a reason. To get more direct teaching from Sutter? To stick close with teammates and compete in practice? Is Sutter breaking Valamaki like a mare to potentially deal with some of his attitude or whatever off ice things that the coaches see and hear, but fans dont?

Whatever it is, no point in sending him away and playing him in Stockton for 6 weeks if he's going to come back with the same attitude/issues that's keeping him from the lineup here (speculating here).

I think best thing for Valimaki is to get sent down and play entire season in Stockton. He needs a lot of ice time and hasn't played a lot of hockey last 3 years.

I believe Darryl and Brad have great trust in the AHL coaches. He needs to play and develop. Deservedly, despite some CPers belief, he has not played because he hasn’t been very good. Not as good as Zadorov...nor Gudbrandson, nor Stone.

He needs development and confidence. AHL is the solution.

Yes Markstrom has been lights out. The best goalie since 2004 Kiprusoff and he is dialed in, you can tell. He’s been phenomenal, confident, poised at all times. He gives the team that calming presence and is just a rock back there. That shootout tonight he was terrific. Lateral movement is quick but doesn’t oversell. Chest up and covers the net, he’s a big dude actually. Never gets rattled. Fights for every puck.

Seems like he is massively under appreciated right now because he is legit having a vezina type season. Meanwhile no goalie can play all 82 games so if we have to sit and rest him… we’ll just go put in the other ####ing amazing goalie who is back up.

It feels like I am in an alternate dimension right now as a Flames fan having the NHL’s best goaltending, and people are not truly talking about it enough.

What happened to Jarry? Does anyone remember his first 3 or 4 games of the season? He was letting in weak goal after weak goal and couldn't even stop bad angle shots. He now looks like prime Hasek.

Shrooms. Really, really good shrooms.

He bought them from a short Italian plumber with a big moustache.

I don't think he's played enough games or league yrs, I believe it's 5 years/160 games

Agree completely. Young players like Valimaki benefit the most from ice time and the A is where he'll get it.

Playing playoff hockey all year is a problem. It can’t be elevated come playoff time.
Didn’t matter for the Jets.

Kylington had 22:29 in ice tonight which was third most, behind only Andersson and Hanifin. Sutter is the defenseman whisperer.
