I said this before but I also think it really behooves the flames to have an established russian on the big club in hopes of bringing in more of the russian prospects we have recently drafted. I was hoping Buchnevich but this is good too.

Lol I think Zad-Andersson would be a total ####### pair to play against. He would bring out the mean qualities in Andy.

What's his expected contract demand?

He’s actually pretty good at suppressing chances against. Brings that physical element.

Lots of people hated the Tanev signing too. I’m willing to see how he performs in a Sutter system compared to the Blackhawks. I could see him flourishing here

I hope we don't sign him long term. 1 year deal and trade him at the deadline for a 2nd would be ideal. Of course, if we are in the playoffs, he will be handy because big = good then, and we can lose him after that. All good with that.

Correct.

In the 85th percentile defensively at EV, but horrible offensively.

Not excited based on his previous results, but man does he sound like a great fit for Sutter's system.

Hanifin - Tanev
Zadorov - Andersson

I could live with that.

I don't think Zadorov is going to move the needle much. Does big with no offence do anything in the NHL anymore? Mixed opinions on twitter of if he is actually good or just average defensively.

This guy will thrive under Darryl hopefully. Good signing. I want this team to be harder to play against if we don't have the superstar offensive power.

Sure. They also haven't done that (yet).

I have a feeling that you'll be unhappy no matter what today

Based on the market, $3-4M on a four to five year term. In that range I think its a win.

Reaction is the same as the Pitlick acquisition:

If this guy was a UFA he wouldn’t be worth his cap-hit (QO in this case) due to poor underlying numbers and it’s extra disappointing that Brad gave up a pick for the right to overpay

Both guys were on bad teams last year and went unprotected. Maybe they contributed to the lack of success with their poor play

The Tanev signing was a bad bet from day one and there's still a chance it becomes a disaster. As of now, his CGY season looks like a big outlier on his career trajectory. I'll be sold when he replicates it.

And it really doesn't matter if you are good at preventing goals if you get hammered in the offensive zone to a greater degree.

Picking him up for a 3rd is a good move. Just please don't overpay him.

I was hoping they’d grab him or Gudbranson. I think this is the better move.

Expect more of these types of players, in a very broad sense - big, physical, pain in the arse to play against. Its Sutter hockey, and right or wrong, after not having much of a clue as to what this team really is, it gives them an identity to come together around.
