The Flames are soft as baby ####, that’s their problem - one of the easiest teams in the league to play against.
Lost Hathaway over a year or two of term at 1.5M, FFS.
Traded Bennett.
Now trade Tkachuk? That move would reaffirm that this organization has no idea what it takes to win.

It is concerning, we have players that seem to be "holding back" Bennett before now Tkachuk. Bennett seemed to lose heart at some point and just wasn't going to do it for Calgary. When he got to Florida he himself said he was having the most fun of his career, how does that work?
My original post that other people spun off into a Bennett discussion.
The elephant in the room. The biggest most consistent leadership gap in any team's history.. Mark Giordano.
He might be a great follower, but is not a leader that produces results. Flames cast him in a wrong role and have left him there to suffer along with whole organization. 8 years and he has never shaken hands after winning a playoff series. Never once as a captain triggered a "Yeah Baby" or even been on the ice for one his entire career.
5 head coaches, one captain.
This is so obvious that it is hard to ignore.

Captain? "Leadership" Are you suggesting we should change captains? Can you give an example, do you have someone in mind that exemplifies the type of leadership "that produces results"?
Giordano has shown tons of leadership in the community, on the ice by his consistent play and production. Lots of times he has carried the team on his back, maybe not as much in recent seasons, but was pretty clutch at times. He is a guy young people can look up to. I would wager it is more the organization that has failed rather than the captain?
Captains can be leaders in different ways but leadership doesn't always come from one person. The team?, definitely "this" team does not seem to have a consistent group that exhibits the ability to lead "the group". Maybe we are not building the right foundation. I don't think that is on the captain?
I was going to post, "Don't feed the troll", but I was too late. It's a pattern and an obvious one, people. If you let them speak into the darkness, they disappear...

The only players holding back Bennett and Tkachuk are Bennett and Tkachuk. If they want to whine about their performance, they should be looking internally, not whining about the players they have been "saddled" with. When you are drafted top four and top six respectively, you are expected to make those players around you better, not the other way around.

Lets go with your take, so why don't they want to do it for Calgary?

A lot of what you have posted is true, but I remember a time in the distant pass when Fleury came into the league they saddled him with Peplinski and HUnter and asked him why he didn't pass more.
At the end of the day, the players you are put with do make a difference. Even Johnny didn't hit his stride this year until they moved Monny off his line.
Something changed with Tkachuk this year, and it changed the night he lost his mind when someone flipped a puck at him, right? He went ape####, totally took the bait, and looked a fool. I think someone in the organization told him to calm down or take a seat, and I don't think he took it well.
We'll see. The team looked disorganized, unfocused, and uncomitted this year, and I tend to give the whole year a scrub due to covid, but I don't think the Flames have had a great leadership group for a long time. Even Jarome, who was dynamite on the ice, was not a great "in the room" Captain according to Warrener - he's mentioned it many times, and doesn't like to get into it when pressed for details, but he always kinda shrugs and deflects and say stuff like "Jarome liked to lead on the ice..." as opposed to kicking some ass or asking more from certain people.
We'll see what this year brings, but I kinda hope the Kraken take Gio, not because I hate him, I don't, but because I think the organization is just terribly stale and terribly mediocre, and I'm ready for some new life.

I don’t want to take what Son of a B said seriously, but it’s hard not to. This organization keeps trading the hard working guys while keeping the soft ones. When Tkachuk was vocal about demanding more from himself and the team, he was obviously told to shut up. That’s not good. Giordano, Gaudreau and Monahan should all go.
Unless you can get a massive haul for Tkachuk, you keep him. Last time he was in a contract year he was a point per game and he's still an RFA after next season so the flight threat is not immediate.
Gaudreau though, if he won't sign a fair extension this off season you better be working hard to get him traded. Losing him as a UFA for nothing next summer would be yet another massive asset management blunder that could cripple the franchise going forward.
I really hope Treliving moves at least one of them for a haul though ASAP. You can't have your biggest cap space eating contracts devoted to wingers and expect to be successful. Especially wingers with flaws, Gaudreau being ridiculously tiny, and Tkachuk being a pretty weak skater.

The flight threat is in 2 seasons. If he hasn't signed with us before the start of the 2022/23 season he's as good as gone. The threat of not getting anything worthwhile back in a trade is now.

You would have to ask the player. This may also be a maturity thing. Personal performance is clearly on the player. A change in geographical location does not magically change anything about performance. The player will have the same skill set, the same strengths and weaknesses, only the attitude and mindset will change, which is all in the player's control. Unless the player makes a conscious decision to embrace the team game and check their ego at the door, they will maintain the same level success and fortune. A trade may be the wakeup call required for the player to understand the personal change required, but any long term success will only come with making change in their attitude and willingness to be a team player.

I disagree. Honestly if Monahan wasn't such a dud/injured (again) this season, the Flames would've made the playoffs, and based on Habs now in the finals, could've gone all the way themselves.
Lindholm is great value for what he brings as a centre, and fill in on the top 6 nicely. What's lacking is another centre who contributes as a good level top 6 centre also since the team lacks a high end one. If Monahan, or if another centre is brought in that can contribute close to as well as Lindholm did, and Tkachuk + Gaudreau (and Eat Bread) continue to perform as they did in the late part of the season, the team up front would have a lot better results, and be in good shape to compete.
