Thing is... that Sochi team was pretty rigid about its LHD/RHD pairings. And I think there's a very good case to be made that Chychrun is the best LHD from Canada right now.

I'd go with something like this:

Chychrun - Makar
Theodore - Hamilton
Toews - Weegar
Pelech - Spurgeon

In reality the dcore will be a mix of Scorp and Transplants lists. Shouldn’t be all the older guys Transplant has listed, and no way they take a dcore as young as Scorp predicts.

You have the old guard: Pietrangelo, Weber, Doughty

The guys that should be in their prime: Ekblad, Parayko, Hamilton, Reilly, Nurse, Toews, Morrissey, Weegar, Theodore, Chabot, Makar, Chychrun, Pelech, Pulock, Girard, Ellis

Then you have to consider in 2010 they had considered guys who have played together as a pair too. Personally I think Weber and Doughty shouldn’t be on the team. Both are past their best before date and the defensive options are too good to bring them on reputation.

Personally i could see these guys as locks:

Theodore - Pietrangelo
Rielly - Hamilton
Makar

Even then I’m not fully sold on Rielly and Hamilton as locks since they might be seen as too one dimensional. And honestly the last three spots could be anyone:

- Toews is a known commodity with Makar, or maybe the other big name from Colorado in Girard
- Ekblad-Weegar or Pelech-Pulock are both pairs that could make the team on their own performance and have the edge of having chemistry as a pair
- Parayko might have an edge in more of a defensive role
- Chabot, Chychrun could be involved based on their performance
- Personally I don’t see Morrissey or Nurse as truly options but you never know

Barzal - MacKinnon - Stone
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Schiefele - Point - O'Reilly

Plus, one of Lafreniere (if he explodes next year), Couturier, Giroux, Stamkos, Seguin, Couture, Toews, Hall

Theodore - Letang

Nurse - Hamilton
Ekblad - Pietrangelo

A 3rd Goalie (ex: Campbell, Binnington, Hart, Talbot, Kuemper, etc...depends who is playing well)
If the two Michael's aren't extras I hope we don't go

To be clear my "list" is not whom i wish to see there or even if they "deserve" to be there, but merely a representation of who is likely to be on Hockey Canadas radar at this point.

They rarely take really young guys on defense when more veteran players are available at the same talent level. They will always take a young guy to (usually) be on the club but watch more than play as they groom him going forward.

here is the ages of the guys on the last Olympic team at the time of the games

Duncan Keith 30
Dan Hamhuis 31
Shea Weber 29
Drew Doughty 25
Jay Bouwmeester 29
Alex Pietrangelo 23
ME Vlasic 27
PK Subban 24

Vet heavy and even more prevalent? Size. Average 6' 1" 205 lbs.

It was a massive winning formula then, so Im not sure they deviate from it now. Why would they?

Are Brent Burns and Jake Muzzin totally out of the picture now? They were on the 2016 World Cup team.

And for forwards, what about Benn and Seguin?

Experience is always a factor.

I would think Burns is done as far as Team canada invites...he has really slowed down.

Muzzin is still possible though there are a lot of really good RS guys he would be competing with.

I know not many are paying attention but the classic match up about to start....Canada/Russia, winner moves on and loser goes back to pinko communist craphole.

Bobrovsky stating for Russia.

Mangiapane and crew in tough actually.

But these two teams have a history of great games regardless of who's wearing the jerseys.

Go Canada Go!!!!

Early on it was all Russia but Canada has carried the play for the past 8 minutes. It's going to be a good one!

Hard hit by Zadorov, who has no Lucic to make him behave.

I don't know what is a penalty in this game. They are allowing alot of stick fouls to go unpunished.

I think the Canadian's forwards could make as good as a case for themselves as any other Canadian team outside of maybe the 87 and 76 Canada Cup teams. Just ridiculous to have Crosby, MacKinnon, Bergeron and McDavid down the middle if needed.

But I'm either getting old and out of touch with the younger defense but those being listed just seem like a stepback from the old guard of prime Doughty, Keith, Weber, Giordano, Pietrangelo, Subban, and friends.

Mangiapane is a God damn beauty.

Best Flames forward this season 5v5 and now crushing it at the World's.

Continue to underrate and underappreciate him, Flames fans. The ones of us who know he's a rockstar top 6 forward will continue to give him the love he deserves
