Maybe a bit of a factor I guess but I still think Markstrom is elite and will get back there soon
I agree, he will get back there.

I was just thinking about how much it factored into how aggressively we went after him. They weren't just sniffing around his camp. It looked like an organizational jihad to get him in that jersey.

I do think we see now how fragile this guy's body can be, and will need a backup to shoulder possibly 30 games each season. Not the 10-20 like during Kipper's tenure.

And he may not have been injured if the Flames didn't ride him in that four game set against the Canucks. He had so much desire to stick it to his old team that he wanted all of those starts. They obliged and it worked against him by the end of it.

Starts for him have to be moderated going forward, for his own good.

Good, we didn't deserve him here anyways. People forget this man carried our behinds for the two seasons and IMO is the main reason we were even in a playoff spot before COVID and all he got in return was to be snubbed in the playoffs by Smitty who was awful that whole season and Talbot who was good but still he was clearly the backup prior to the bubble.

I wish Rittich the best of luck and happy that he gets to go to a franchise that gives a damn about making their team better and won't leave him to dry like this pathetic excuse for a team did. I'm really glad he got out of this dumpster fire we call the calgary flames.

Oh and as for Marky, he's wanted for highway robbery. He makes those contracts Brad gave to Brouwer and Neal look like a steal.
"Best Goalie we've had since Kipper" HAHAHAHA my left $%$%

I'm sad to see Rittich go. It took well over a decade+ to find a homegrown backup to play consistently for the team. My biggest fear is that one of the prospects aren't ready to step in, or the GM woofs on a trade/UFA signing and the backup carrousel continues for years. Rittich was more than adequate and I think he'll do well on pretty much any NHL team.

Best of luck to him and his family.

I am going to miss BSD. But, this is a trade that you make all day. It's a good asset, and maybe we re-sign Rittich if there are not any suitors for him later. My guess is he signs in Buffalo and does a 41/41 split with another goaltender that Buffalo signs.

Having Brodie and Rittich in Toronto won't make me upset if they do finally go far in the playoffs. Best of luck BSD! Thanks for the memories, especially during that glorious 18/19 regular season. You were a big part of that.

I would imagine that the Flames just ride out with Domingue for the rest of the year. He's not that terrible of a goalie (at least we don't know yet), but the writing was on the wall for BSD when we signed Markstrom.

I've been there, wake up at 11:00am, check post history to make sure I didn't say anything dumb. Oops.

UFA goalie traded for a pick, nothing to see here.

wait he's was serious?

Rittich is the main reason the Flames made the playoffs despite Talbot having a better record and numbers?

Seems like a troll job

Oilersforever99 more like it

Either the user is trolling or just frustated.

In the end, it really doesn't matter. We have a goalie signed to enough money, he gets another shot next year. It is unlikely we can afford the FA Rittich with that goalie signed and even if we can, we may get him in the FA period. Getting a 3rd for him now is a slam dunk, everything else is just noise / trolling /people frustrated we are selling our back-up goalie capabilities as it nails what we all now know - a playoff run is pretty much dead this year.

I woke up to this news. Even though you could see this coming, I felt sadness. He seems to be extremely nice person and brought a lot more to the game than just another guy between the pipes.

Rittich is one of the game’s great characters, and in a really good way. Watching him with his arms raised when he knew Johnny was going to put it away for the win was fun.

But, most touching of all was when he brought his brother to see Harvey the Hound. I still feel warm thinking about that - the joy on Tomas’s face.

Moments like that will make David stand out in memories of former players in the years to come.

I hope, and it pains me to say this, that he helps bring success to the Leafs.

Same.

I also hope he decides to sign here in the off season.

Great pro but an even better human being.

Rittich came out of nowhere to win the starting job. Wish the flames gave him a bit of a leash to see what he was during spring time hockey.

Shocked that a contender gave up, even a third, for a guy who's never played in the playoffs really.

Good luck to him, he was an easy player to cheer for.

Some of this board is so bi-polar.

Some posters: Nobody wants our garbage, none of our guys have value.

Same posters: I can't believe BT only got a 3rd for our backup goalie.

The swings on here can sometimes be unreal.

At least we'll get to see Domingue. I was hoping that he would play at some point. I know the bar is low for him but maybe he can go on a run at some point with the Flames like he did with Tampa.

It would be nice if he showed he can play at a backup level and be someone worth re-signing for cheap

Get it right, the Flames aren't a dumpster fire, they are a room temperature glass of water.
