Maybe Sutter will be creative this year. Instead of 7 game series segments he just does a 16 game countdown to Stanley.

At least those players didn't have a 6x6.

It can be both.
I truly believe that Ward is a terrible head coach.
AND the makeup of this team is terrible.

This season is done.
Sad, very sad, thing is that there are no bright spots on the horizon.
This franchise could be a bottom feeder for years to come.

I’ve said it for 5+ years. You have to know you can consistently score 3 goals a game minimum to consistently win and be a playoff team with a chance.

I think there's a point where we have to call time of death on a clear outlier of a season where every single player scored at an unsustainable rate full of career highs.
It's been long enough that we would have seen some glimpses of what went on that season by now if there was any chance of it coming back.

this is dumb
Markstrom has played 26 games with the Flames
13 or so were amazing
13 or so were not great
Condensed schedule, new team, terrible team play
Need to give the guy a real chance, I bet he has a good year next season

Not sure if serious or not...
If you’re serious. I will say that in the previous season , the Flames finished in the bottom 5 in goals. So which team is the real Calgary Flames? Those 289 also didn’t work against the 8th seeded Avs.
It’s interesting, under Ward and Peters, this team was extremely aggressive and pursued the puck heavily for their chances but gave him plenty of goals and chances in the process. Now they’re playing more structured and conservative which has dropped the chances against, but now they can’t score. I think it just goes to show that this team quite simply under any style of play, just isn’t good enough.

Even strength xGF% was 51.09 under Sutter's 12 games, 51.32 over the whole season.
By the law of averages, as you say, this team should be in a playoff spot (or close to). Expected stats are a somewhat overrated IMO, but when sample sizes are small it's the best stat available for tracking player/team performance.
Looks favorable for Ward, but there's quite a bit it doesn't take into account. For instance, this team has known for the past couple of weeks that the playoffs were basically out of reach for them, so it likely took some of the wind out of their sails. Plus, things like injuries, Backlund's new baby, etc.

Whatever we were all waiting for The Real Deal to come around too. I’ve seen enough. How’s he gonna look while we continue to decline. Bad contract timing wise.

Who gives a #### about Ward?
He was a terrible hire to begin with. He will never be a head coach again in the NHL.
Feel bad for the guy but move on already.

Neal had 13 amazing games?
Markstrom was on fire in the first month or so...he was a top 4 player on earth in his position last year.
its not a good comparison at all...Neal isn't even an NHLer anymore
26 games

But you’ll let a 10-game stint with a brand new coach, in the middle of a season, with an already bad team, during a covid year where there’s less practices to implement his systems/styles, with no pre season with the team, colour your viewpoints?

Whoa, whoa.
Markstrom was 14th in sv% in the NHL, right after Talbot who was 13th

Because all shots are equal right...this guy
4th in vezina voting...NHL GMs thought he was top 4
did you even watch last season? Canucks were a tire fire and Markstrom was their MVP by a mile and got them in the playoffs by himself

BASED ON NHL GMS VOTING HIM THE 4TH BEST GOALIE IN THE NHL LAST SEASON
Again, did you watch last season? Because he was also voted the Canucks MVP in a landslide.
Is your argument that Markstrom wasn't a top goalie last season? Odd the Oilers would offer him a 7 year contract and not Talbot based on your numbers.
Go look at Demko's numbers in front of that team last season
