So any good examples around the league where we sold high on someone?
I guess we've got James Neal to fall back on. That one still feels pretty good.

Hudler, Glencross, Baertschi, probably Frolik, Ferland I guess (though that was more about injuries).
Oh, and the gold standard - Reto Berra

Most of those were auctioning off UFA's, getting whatever you could before they left.
Berra is a good example, a guy they didn't have to trade.
This team could use a reverse Hamonic deal badly. Get a lottery team to give up prime picks for a depth player.

Baerstchi, Ferland and Berra weren’t. None of those guys had to be traded. Though I have no clue how he did it with Berra. He was waiver wire fodder.

I wouldn't say Hudler was sold high. They extracted pretty good value but he was god awful his last year here.
My view is that generally this is a franchise that, with rare exceptions, traded players at very poor moments to maximize their value.

This is a team that just doesn't know when to trade a player.

In other 2014 Sam related news, apparently Reinhart is doing quite well since moving to C in Eichel's absence.
8g in last 8gp; 5 in last 3. Obviously they're in garbage time now.
Another guy who's been somewhat unfairly maligned and might be a lot better on a less terrible team.

Never been a fan of Reinhart. His numbers aren't good enough, and he's not the fastest skater, plus he's soft.

Sounds like he'd fit perfectly here.

Skinner looks better too. Maybe he rebounds on his terrible deal to make it slightly less horrific?

" Jaromir Jagr said he does not plan to retire after completing his 33rd professional hockey season Thursday, even though the 49-year-old forward said his skills have declined.
"I believe I still have it in me," Jagr said. "It is all just about working hard and putting more effort. I have to practice harder and avoid gaining weight. You know, I was used to scoring a goal when I wanted to score one. I have been working hard since I was very young to be able to do it. And suddenly I feel it is not possible anymore.""
I thought this quote was interesting:
"I expect much more from myself and I don't have it," he said. "But I am aware that when I leave, many (business) partners will leave the team too. That's why I have no choice."
It seems like he's carrying the team on his shoulders off the ice.

Jagr will forever be one of my favourite players ever. I hated it how it didn't work out here (even though I thought when he was in the lineup, that line was decent). One of the most purely entertaining players in the history of the game, with one of the greatest names of all time.

Michael Bunting has finally made the Coyotes full-time after being drafted way back in 2014.
He has nine goals (!!) in his first 16 games this year. He's played six AHL seasons in the organization and never made the team out of camp. He's a pending UFA who is still eligible for the Calder... you don't see that too often.
When he was drafted, the Coyotes were coming off a season where Keith Yandle led them in scoring; their forwards included Mikkel Boedker, Shane Doan, Mike Ribeiro, David Moss, Lauri Korpikoski, Jeff Halpern, Paul Bissonnette, Martin Erat, Antoine Vermette, and Kyle Chipchura; Mike Smith was their starting goalie; Michael Stone was in their top-four....
Oh, and they were still called "Phoenix."

That's funny, I saw his name the other day in the Box Score, and I thought, "where have I heard that name before?" Geez, they really refused to give up on him...

He's been there through four general managers!
Maloney drafted him. Then, Chayka, Sullivan, and now Armstrong.
Pretty sure only OEL has been there longer.

Not necessarily in terms of value acquired, but I think there could be an argument to be made that the Flames got the best years out of Dion Phaneuf before they traded him.

What a great example. Acquired for Dan Quinn, sold for Doug Gilmour.
