Are you one of those dads that are normally chill, but when you get angry, you're horrifying?

I'm not sure why I would have expected any different but it still caught me by surprise. And a different type of swearing and trash talking than I was used to from the boys.
a buddy of mine ran the adult hockey league here in kelowna for a number of years and he was short on scorekeepers the one year and asked if i could help him out - so i did score keeping for about a season and a half.

i was shocked by the language from the ladies - like make a trucker blush... especially when 2 ladies got penalties and would chirp each other we me stuck in between the penalty boxes. all i know is if guys said stuff like that they would have been kicked out!

my favourite score keeping memory was during a fun tournament that is used to raise money for ronald mcdonald house - a guy gets a penalty in the first few minutes of the game and he was not happy about that. he sits in the box and the box door is still open so i asked him if he could close it. this is how the conversation went:
me: hey bud, would you mind closing the door?
him: f u
me: excuse me?
him: f u! you f'n heard me you f'n loser!
me: hit the horn button
him: what the f was that for?
me: your night is done
him: f u! you can't f'n kick me out!
me: son... i just did!!!
the ref came over and i asked him to "escort this fine gentleman off the ice, becuz his night is done." the ref just smiled becuz this guy was just being a clown.

i was brought up that you don't swear - which is fine. i don't swear much - usually only when i'm really upset about something and never around my kids. i don't see the need to use constant swears - it just sounds.... not dumb - that's not the word i'm looking for... there's just so many other words to use to express yourself that swearing is just the most 'basic'/'lowest level'. years ago i did construction for almost a decade and worked with all sorts of guys and some were the 'f-bomb every second word' and it just gets old - can you not think of any other word in the english language to use other than 'f-this/f-that'? a friend of mine back at university had an unreal vocabulary and hearing him talk/argue about stuff and the words he chose was just great - all with very little swearing. he'd throw in the odd swear to really emphasize something, but they were sparsely used. he was a very powerful speaker and did it all with little to no swearing.

I'd say the opposite in terms of anger. Swearing for emphasis is good when applied across the board (happy, excited, sad, angry, whatever) but people who don't swear and then turn into a sailor when they're angry just come off even worse than people who swear regularly.

Instead of it coming off like you mean business, it comes off like you aren't thinking clearly and don't have any control of your emotions. You're already angry, and you're using language you don't normally use, so it devalues whatever you're saying as just some mindless rant.

Just want to vent? Sure. Want people to take what you say in anger seriously and get your point across? Uncharacteristic swearing has to be the absolute worst way to do it.
