How exactly is two sides who signed a contract agreeing to terminate it a loophole?

The loophole would be if he signed again for a different value. If it is less money or smaller cap hit, then it's a loophole for the team. Cap circumvention.

Out of thanks but a perfect response. I thought the loophole part was a given.

I would assume, as others have said, that terminating the contact would be used as a bargaining chip to get debtors to take a smaller cut.

He owes more than his contract is worth, he's not gonna see much if anything for the rest of that deal if he keeps playing, and the debtors stick to their guns. So I'm assuming that the threat is, "Hey, if you don't accept 50 cents on the dollar, I'll get my contract terminated, never play hockey again, and you'll get zero."

Whether that turns out to be a legitimate threat, or even legal is the big question mark.

So he just pisses away all his money for no reason at all? Signs a smaller deal and then gets that taken by his debtors?

I'm trying to understand why this would ever happen and be a loophole. He would be done with hockey to get away from the debtors if they terminated the deal.

It kind of depends on what the bankruptcy rules are and how much creditors can take, but the taxes on $700k are probably less substantial than $7 million. It might be the difference between having some money and no money left over at the end of the day.

Why would the NHL allow this? Cap circumvention for sure. It is a hollow threat hoping the creditors don't understand the intricacies of the CBA, which I doubt.

Declaring bankruptcy has serious long term implications, you don’t want to go there. You may end up as President of the United States.

I would take him in a second if he didn't have these off-ice issues. I love the way he plays. Unfortunately, the side issues could easily become distraction.

I have no opinion on him as a person. When he was flaunting his wealth, I thought it was tacky, but I also don't think someone should be written off because of a bad decision when they were young. The issue of fitting in when he was in Winnipeg is a little more concerning, but I am sure the issue is more complicated than we know. We only got the story from one side.

If he somehow gets his off-ice problems sorted out, I would definitely be interested.

Could Sutter be the coach that gets him in line?

Sounds like a scorned lover to me. Still, I wouldn't take this guy if we got him for nothing and he played for the league minimum. Some people are just not worth the headache.

Doubt he’s throwing games. But the other stuff.

Wow.

There enough unfavourable incidences, that the Sharks terminate his contract?
Have they got him into therapy?

And of course, the cliche. "Now there's the room for Eichel."

Kane's an idiot no doubt, but his email sounds like he and his wife are already separated which can explain his absence; the wife's social media posts make it sound like they aren't though.

Lots of drama.

It did sound a little like their relationship is over or right on the edge.
