It’s gonna be glorious in 3 years when Kylington becomes a good NHL player and Stone is still a ‘7th’ defender on the Flames who gets 30 games a season

You are correct, I confused this account with another rumour account. My apologies.

Lol. 300x more likely that both Stone and Kylington are not in the NHL rather than both.

Right? The "Bennett needs to play C" and "Bennett needs better linemates" notions don't mix well.

You make a huge mistake, and sign a guy to a not super great (even at the time) contract (with a limited NTC!), and then have to turn around and buy him out. And then you bring him back again, and then once more on a PTO. I'm just saying optically, aren't there about 300 other guys who could be equally as mediocre as Stone? Should Tre at least have some shame about signing that deal in the first place?
I guess I'm just more a believer in the "fool me once, shame on me" theory than I am the "devil you know" theory.

I would hope any GM would operate on a "what do I do now" basis, and not chase the sunk cost fallacy of closing an option because of a prior contract mistake.

Seems like Treliving is taking risks here with zero reward
Who replaces Ryan if he gets claimed? Our PK without him looks terrible

for the 200th time Stone has ZERO to do with Kylington on waivers
Stone would be waived too but he ISNT SIGNED!

His speed is blistering. Surely you can coach him into being a capable enough d-man, and use him as a secret weapon in transition?
I just don't recall ever seeing a d-man with those wheels. Maybe the kid should've considered a career as a forward...
|
We just didn't see the speed enough.
On the backcheck without the puck sure ... and it was great. But it seemed he never used his boots to beat anyone one on one or skate out of trouble with the puck.
Froze often ... standing there stick handling.

I would be surprised if anyone claims Ryan. He's been extremely underwhelming at his price tag. If he were making 1.5M AAV, sure. As it stands, who wants a contract like that eating up cap space on the 4th line. Still one of Treliving's worst signings.

He makes 3 million, not 6 million.
He can play up and down the lineup, at C or W. One of our two competent RH C on the team. Consistent 40pt production. Hardly makes any mistakes. Best penalty killer on the team.
How is he one of Tre's 'worst signings'?

None of the 3 are getting claimed. They all would have to be in main roster and I don’t see it happening. Every team right now is doing what Calgary is doing . It’s just a process to establish taxi squad. Flames will save cap space with Kylington and Ryan on taxi squad. They will be called to the main team when needed. No sense on having Ryan’s full cap hit on main team as a 13th forward. They want Bennett at center ( correct call) and Nordstrom is far better penalty killer

I would posit that, for what he's provided to the Flames over the last two years, Ryan has been underpaid, not overpaid.

Seems obvious to me they tried to trade Ryan all offseason with no takers
he is a decent player but not worth 3M on this roster. Highly doubt he is claimed.

Most of the things people are saying about the potential of Kylington's offensive game is pretty true. However, his complete inability to use his body to defend net-front battles may torpedo his viability as an NHL defender.

Nordstrom is a marginally better penalty killer but is MUCH worse at literally everything else. He should not be beating Ryan out of the lineup, if that is the decision making process this is pretty inexcusable

3M for a utility guy who can put up 35-40pts in the bottom 6 is definitely worth 3 million. Especially as a UFA.
