I am confused. Or maybe you're confused but the format you describe is precisely what is happening:
Quote:
The top four teams in each division will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with intradivisional play in the first two rounds (#1 vs. #4; #2 vs. #3). The four teams that advance to the Semifinal Round would be seeded by their regular season points total, with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed in one series and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds meeting in the other.
|
"Inter-divisional play" would actually be competition between Divisions, more like in a #1 v #8 to #4 v #5 format. That's not what you describe above.
What will happen is "intra-divisional play" where each Division will play among themselves until there is a single winning team. The four teams in the conference final will represent each of the four COVID Divisions.

Now I'm confused at how I wasn't confused before because you're absolutely right.

Thanks. I misread it. That’s awesome. I hope something like this stays that way going forward.

That is .607 pts%, which is around a 100 point pace over 82 games

So Ottawa is the easy pick to miss. After that, it's a toss up. I'd say Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
Edmonton has no defence or goaltending in a situation where they're playing the same teams night in and night out. Saw how that worked out for them vs Chicago.
Winnipeg is literally going to ride Hellebyuck like they did last year and if he falters at all they're in for a rough time.
Calgary is probably the best 'team' from top to bottom. They don't have the top end forwards like Pettersson or Matthews, they don't have anyone as good as Shea Weber or Quinn Hughes on the back end and as much as I love Markstrom, he isn't as good as Price. But they also don't have any major issues at any position either. Leafs can't defend, Canadians can't score and the Canucks bottom.of the roster is all question marks.

Maybe this has already been posted, but it would be interesting to see a similar breakdown for all the Canadian teams.

The fact that forwards are going to see a lot of the same net minders is going to make the position even more important than it already was.
The Canadian division has some good goaltending. Basically Ottawa, and Edmonton are the only two with bellow average net minding.

NHL teams have started receiving drafts of their 2021 regular-season schedule: It sounds like they're generally grouped in two-game segments against the same opponent, although there's also some three-gamers and I've heard of at least one instance of a four-gamer (!)
Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Oilers will play Calgary and Vancouver 10 times each in the regular season, and nine games against all the other Canadian teams.

All Flames players are now in Calgary except Oliver Kylington who is just sorting through some immigration issues.

If Edmonton is playing its 2 extra games against Calgary and Vancouver, that probably means Calgary's will be Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Interesting....so he hasn't made it to the city yet and will still have to quarantine when he does?
Does that not automatically mean he will miss at least a few days of camp?
Say he gets here the 23rd...that means the earliest he can join the team is Jan. 6....no?
