What a crock. I’m far from a ward fan but Gio had played 20 minutes, he’s your best dman, he should be out there to close out a game. Every NHL coach puts Gio out there in that moment.

When you’re winning a game at the 59:59.8 mark of the game and you lose people are going to be mad. Add in the importance of this game in the playoff race and it’s completely justified.

Is there a stat out there for teams who have teams play a completely clean game against them?

Its crazy that they had zero power plays.

Sucks to lose, but I liked how the Flames played.

Backlund was sensational... AGAIN. I have been saying it for a couple of seasons now, but I really believe he should be the next captain after Giordano. He plays the right way and is crazy underrated even by us fans. He will accept any assignment the coaches give him and he just works his butt off. Rough patch through the year, and I still think it was the most stupidest of stupid decisions to move him to wing instead of letting him work through that rough patch, but I think he has been such a standout leader for the Flames.

Backlund made an awesome play, but good on Mangiapane for being able to bury it. I think it looked easier than it was, so kudos for him in finishing that chance. He was good all game.

Andersson was the best defencemen tonight I thought.

The 'goats' for me were:
Lindholm - didn't pick his assignments up on the defensive side, and it hurt the Flames.

Gustafsson and Forbort - they were not too steady tonight. Missed some key checks in the defensive zone and were on the ice for two goals against.

Bennett - I love Bennett, but he had a terrible game tonight. Funny thing though - I bet he comes back next game and scores a goal. I noticed his bad games have stopped trending at 1 or 2, rather than a whole series.

Rittich isn't on my goats list. I think that 2nd goal he should have had, but I actually think Gustafsson got in the way of that one - not 100% sure. Almost had it. That was his bad goal. The tying goal was chaos all over the place, and I think the team let him down there. He could have been better, but I don't think that he lost the game for them. He made some really good saves as well.

Play this way all the time, and you win most of the time. Tonight was one of those nights where the team that won lost. It happens. Flames have pulled these sort of comebacks all too often over the last 5 seasons, and tonight it was just Nashville that got lucky there. They capitalized on the few mistakes the Flames made. That was the difference.

I really hate how Ward operates the OT. He should really look at some tape over the years - especially the Hartley years - to figure out how this team was so elite during overtime. You HAVE to start Monahan-Gaudreau-Giordano (or Brodie). Don't like it? Fine, play this team's best defensive centre who also happens to be red-hot.

I really believe coaching has been an issue with this team for a long time now, and I really hope most of this team returns next season under a quality coach. They could be lights out.

Oh yeah, one more thing...

Backlund is a God.

There's being mad and disappointed and then there is just having really awful hot takes about coaches and players intelligence because the result didn't go how they wanted.

Getting scored on at 19:59:9 of the third period is inexcusable.

I thought it was a good game. Unfortunate finish, but good game. I assumed more people would feel that way? Tough crowd in here.

Again, Ryan cannot hold his own with the third line. The 4th line with Bennett was way better. Overall the Flames were better they just lost the game. They have to win against Tampa on Saturday who will not be as motivated. Also, Flames gained a point on the Canucks who were outplayed by Ottawa.

I agree, I’m just not going to crucify people for posting out of anger tonight. Tonight I think it’s justified, even if some of the takes are bad.

No.

How about our "nuclear deterrent" actually deters someone for once? Maybe in arguably our biggest game of the year when the officials have put their whistles away?
The day Milan Lucic looks at the refs to solve this problem for him is the day he needs to hang up his skates.

Not sure if I blame anyone but Rittich on the 0.1 goal. 3 Flames came out and challenged the shot, then when it weakly went to the side, and puck behind the net, with that amount of time, you have to keep it back there and prevent the wrap around which is what Gio and Brodie did.

Rittich was far far to slow to respond to get to the post, the only place that the Preds had to score, because Gio was trailing the guy behind the net, so the one side was covered...Brodie flew through there and abandoned the front too to prevent the wraparound and or get a piece of the pass.

I guess one the forwards could’ve gotten closer to Granlund, Backlund had knocked Duchense down.

The extra half seconds that Rittich both took staying on his belly and then trying to get all the way up before deciding that getting to the post first, was the better option, cost the Flames.

It shouldn’t have even gotten to that point if he made a basic chest save on Josi a few minutes earlier.

Yeah Gio is the man, he’s earned it and should be on the ice for the key moments. But he blew it. Chased behind the net instead of covering his post. Maybe it’s because he’s rusty. But as we often say, it’s a Peewee level mistake and he deserves to be called out.

Lol....

It's kind of funny how with 18 games left the flames will have to claw themselves into a wc position...... Only to face Vegas, who they haven't beat and have been outscored 12-2 this season....

Sure. Call him out for the mistake. Original poster was calling out Ward for Gio being on the ice in the first place which is utterly ridiculous.

If you think we’re pissed, imagine how the players feel. You score an absolute beauty with 42 measly seconds left and then you can’t hold that lead??

All year I’ve been noticing how terrible we are at clearing our own zone and tonight we got burned bad. I wouldn’t doubt if there’s some finger pointing tonight and it’s a shame because they had that game won.

Will be interesting to see how they respond against a better team. And an afternoon game to boot... ugh

For what it's worth, if the Flames had won, I would've been in here gushing about how they're finally passing my eye test and dictating play. They played basically a perfect road game in the first 59 minutes.

I had no real issue tonight with any of Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Backlund, Mangiapane, Ryan, Lucic, Rieder, Giordano, Brodie, Forbort, Hanifin, or Andersson. I thought they were all great. The first line especially was top notch, love to see them going at it so effectively. (By the first line, I mean the 3M line, of course.)

I would hate to play Vegas but really, considering how close the division is, they could play many teams in the first round starting at home or on the road.
