Reading some pretty positive reviews of Cornelius Johannes Van Eyk who certainly passes the name test.

Really like their first 2 picks. In watching a bit on Eyk his fastball curveball combo is pretty wicked. Sounds like they may have something there is he sorts out some control issues.
Palmer doesn't seem bad just a little high but as mentioned perhaps it's a play to save some money. not a terrible pick either though.
Part of the reason I've liked Shapiro/Atkins is they'v drafted very well and that seems to be continuing.

Regarding Shapiro and Atkins their message from the get go was the importance of development and to have "waves" of impact players coming through the system, and this appears to be coming to fruition. The real obvious losses for Shapiro/Atkins was the Donaldson trade and the Encarnacion debacle, but they have been fairly shrewd at drafting and acquiring talent via trades (not Derek Fisher).
There are so many players that I am excited about that it's hard to keep track.
Simeon Woods-Richardson
Alek Manoah
Eric Pardinho
Adam Kloffenstein
Nate Pearson
Jordan Groshans
Orelvis Martinez
Alejandro Kirk
and now Austin Meadows and Van Eyk

Just spitballing, but imagine if Betts goes UFA and the Jays can sign him?
Potential 2022 line up.
SS - Bichette
RF - Betts
1B - Vlad
LF - Gurriel
DH - ?????
2B - Biggio
CF - Martin
3B - Groshans
C - Jansen/Kirk/Moreno

Yeah, that would be a crazy good lineup. Now pitching, that's where the bigger questions would be. Not depth, because I'm sure they could figure out 4/5 guys, but the 1-3 starters is what separates good from championship.

My hope would be:
Pearson
UFA
Trade
Or maybe a dark horse comes out of the wood work or one of Manoah or SWR develop quicker than expected, although missing a whole season isn't going to help that at all.
We also have Ryu in the fold, which I keep forgetting lol it was so long ago when he signed.

Smart pickup with Harrison Ray. It looks like he is the newest Cavan Biggio type for the clubhouse, which is great for the development of the whole team.

Head Coach Tim Corbin’s quote on Rays’ Vanderbilt website states that “Harry is the consummate team guy … very connected to his teammates. Versatile, adaptable, relational, contentious and tough. Guys like this … you really miss when they are gone.”

The Jays 5th round pick, Zach Britton, signed for $97,500.00. That's about 325K below slot... good news on the signing Martin front.

So which of the 5 picks has officially signed now besides Britton?

As far as I know he's the first (Martin will almost certainly be the last... Boras will have him wait until the Jays sign everybody else to see how much slot room they make, I wager it get's done).

I wasn't hardly missing sports at all through this mess, but the MLB draft last week has me now missing baseball so much, especially with the Jays young core just breaking into it last season and still having a top 5 or so farm system despite the 4 grads last year.

3rd rounder Trent Palmer signed as well but terms are not out yet.
Rumors are Boras is asking for 7.5 for Martin. Tough negotiation coming i'm sure.

I thought I read somewhere that would be the rate for him given where he was positioned to go? I think the Jays pay it without much of a whisper. They don't want to rock the Boras boat over a million or so extra, when momentum is on their side.

They can only go over their total slot value by 5% without incurring major penalties (forfeiting draft picks). I think it works out at around 7.5 million available if they sign both remaining picks, or 7 million available if they only sign Martin.

Well that will put the brakes on things. The virus is basically stampeding through the southern US states unchecked.
