One of the earlier posts commented on the refs reticence to blow the whistle, on anything. So no surprise that they don`t call past a 5 on 3 at that time.

Yeah he was definitely doubling down knew it was highly unlikely the refs were gonna add on to the calls already given. Lucky they didnt toss his ass, any league other then the nhl he likely would have been.
