Don’t get me wrong, I loved the guy and his super chill attitude but I think it hurt the team at times. It gets tiring when his poor stats in multiple seasons are rationalized as being he fault of the team in front of him. I also think that, somewhat similar to complaints about Johnny, if he’d taken things more seriously he may have been as good as his skill set sometimes allowed him to be.

People talk about Iggy not being a guy who was desperate to win based on some of his lacklustre defensive play and where he chose to play after Calgary but really it was Kipper who didn’t care about winning all that much.
haha wow!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

Well then I may as well double down. I want to reiterate, I loved Kipper and am by no means saying he was bad or anything but in the pantheon of goaltenders he’s definitely not part of the elite of his era. Not consistent enough.

Regular season save percentages of 903, 906, 903, 882. Playoff sv % of 908 and 884 including getting pulled after not showing up in game 7.

That’s 4 good seasons, 1 out of his mind season and 4 bad seasons, only 1 of which was excusable.

Sorry but he’s not an all time great.

Kipper was truly overrated and Cecil is absolutely correct. Great goaltender, but his stats just don't back up the god-like status he seems to have. He was terribly inconsistent but because he was super flashy he was super popular.

Now that’s when you know it’s an unpopular opinion. I’ve got opposing team fans agreeing with me.

Those later seasons he had not very good flames teams in front of him, yet he kept them in playoff hunts annually. Keep in mind how much the team leaned on him and iggy. We were a fraction as deep then. Kipper was a top ten goalie in the league with the Flames until maybe the last season or two before he called it quits. And near best on the planet for those first two or three seasons there.

Sandy McCarthy was the Flames best ever enforcer.

The reason I don’t buy Kipper didn’t really care is because the dude stretched 3-4 hours a day.

Hell, I’m a goaltender, and I can barely stand 3-4 minutes of daily stretching.

In summation: Stretching sucks.

Harvey the Hound needs an image upgrade. Something a bit edgier.

Flames will trade Gaudreau in a year or two and be a better team for it.

Also, the giant Yves Belanger replica goalie mask outside the Saddledome should never had been created. He was out of the Atlanta Flames organization before they even moved to Calgary. He was out of professional hockey when the Saddledome was built. He does not deserve such immortalization.

I don’t know how anyone could watch those Flames teams from 2004-2013 and conclude that Kiprusoff was not that good. Those teams would have finished bottom five it it weren’t for him.

Harvey should be replaced by a rejuvenated Scorch (now out of jail).

You got a great outlook about the new building. You're the first person I think of when thinking about the down side of a new building. I will go so far as to say you have the best seats of any NHL rink I've been in (nine in total), hands down. Just a total treat to watch a game from your seats. Thanks for sharing them with us.
