What "pass"? Smith caught a piece of the shot which deflected and bounced off of another Red Wings player who was inexplicably free at the side of the net, and the puck entered the goal.

And then allow the goal the other half of the time.
Did you watch the 2nd goal ? The original pass . Not the shot back across

It’s aboit 6 inches from the goalie. Smith is almost inside the net

Well that’s just a whole pile of wrong from Shannon
This team is not deep in goal at least in terms of immediate options
Did he simply ignore the AHL stats?

I said neither goal you can blame on him because he’s a backup caliber goalie, those were tough saves but saves a starter could make.

When you're a top team in the league even the lower ranked teams are going to bring their A game against you to make a statement.

We need to get used to this.

Jeez Louise.

I'm no Smith apologist at all, but c'mon people.

Are we really harping on those goals? Honestly far too many passengers so far and both defensive breakdowns.

Team just plays so tight in front of Smith. Can’t be loose when every mistake hits the back of your net.

Rittich does stop both of those. Why? Because he’s an elite goalie. Not just good... he’s elite... time will prove this.

I'm very critical of Smith, but I think he's played better than most in red.

The 1st goal was a good goal. A different decision might have been an easy stop, or an easy passing play. Listen to Gaudreau talk about a very similar goal against Winnipeg and he mentioned that he 'saw' a hole and hit it. Good goals are scored sometimes.

The 2nd goal was odd, and would have been a flukey save if he got it.

He made a bunch of good saves tonight and is moving faster than I've seen him as of late. The team needs to start controlling the play.

The Calgary goalie isn't the problem right now.

Not really. Smith has looked awful most of the year and doesn't look confident at all when he is in net Flames need to find a way to move on. Good goalies make saves on occassion that they have no business making. Smith allows a terrible goal almost every game he is in.

I mean he's let in so many bad goals I wonder why they still have him starting games at all. Defending him at this point is like defending Brouwer.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the first goal, but that second goal was a fluke that any goalie would be hard-pressed to stop.

He's not ideal but this is far from his worst effort.

This team needs another goalie and it's been pretty obvious to most people since mid October (if not earlier, because Smith was awful throughout pre-season and after coming back from that injury last season too). Rittich can't start every game, but they can't keep pissing away points and/or potentially playoff games by starting Smith. Something's gotta give sooner or later.

People should be able to make reasonable conclusions about goals scores instead of blaming him for them all
