He’s also great at stirring the pot by face washing guys, pulling goalie helmets off, etc...
You don’t want that to go away, and that’s what putting another C on his jersey would do.

There won’t be any concerns for the Flames losing their core. Treliving has it set up almost perfect
Johnny UFA - Gio 6.75 expires
Monahan UFA - Neal 5.75 expires
Hanifin and Lindholm UFA - Backlund expires
If Tkachuk signs a 7 or 8 year deal only real concerns is replacing Gio and Backlund. To this point Neal is easily replaceable
Only way this gets derailed is if they get very aggressive in adding a big contract. I assume BT only does this if he feels the team is on the verge of a cup

He has cleaned the dirty stuff up but in big nasty games Chucky shines.

I might go ...

· Point
· Tkachuk
· Marner
· Rantanan
· Connor
· Boeser
I think Matthews and Laine are in a class on their own, and then have #3–7 bunched together—but Aho is firmly atop that group, with Connor and Boeser in the third tier.
... this is hard.

Athletic had a top 100 under 25 list and had it
Matthews 2
Laine 5
Aho 12
Marner 13
Rantanan 16
Boeser 17
Tkachuk 18
Point 20
Connor 29

Rantanen is on pace for 130+ points. 34 points right now playing in his 21st game of the season. Leading the league. Not quite sure I'd have Aho ahead of him, not quite sure I would have Laine...

I wouldn’t put Laine in Matthews class. He’s a hell of a player but he’s largely an amazing shot, doesn’t drive play like the guy he’s often compared to in Ovechkin. I’d say most players in that list are pretty much in the same class. Rantanen could be moving into Matthews class if he keeps this up over the whole season.

I agree 100%, keep the A on him and give Monahan the C. Let Chucky continue to be that pest and be an amazing producer.
$8x8 would be nice, anything more is an over payment and any less term is too short.

I hear what you are saying, but Rantanen plays with the second-best player drafted since Sidney Crosby. He’s great. I am just not sure how great he is.

That looks about right to me, but there is no way in hell I would have Boeser ahead of both Tkachuk and Point. This early season is certainly showing how tremendously important a player he is to the Flames.

Mackinnon had two 50 point seasons before Rantanen burst through in his sophomore season. This included a year playing with Duchene and Landeskog where he put up 52 points, when Duchene had 59 and Landeskog had 53. There was a lot of problems in Colorado, true, but maybe Mackinnon also benefits from playing with Rantanen like Rantanen does playing with Mackinnon.
Also, Malkin, Ovechkin and McDavid were all drafted after Crosby...

In the off-season having Boeser ahead of Tkachuk and Point was a perfectly fair assessment in my opinion. Boeser was on pace for around 40 goals playing with scrubs on a bad team. Now they jumped ahead of him, as young players will do.
Where's Mathew "traded for Griffin Reinhart" Barzal fit in all of this? (Edit: Oh, RFA the next year).

Ovechkin and Malkin were the top-2 picks of the 2004 Draft.
