I guy I work with used to manage a hotel. He has some crazy #### stories. Anyways he has talked about this situation before.
He calls it crack s**t. When heavier people sit on the toilet in a way that closes their cheeks....what happens is that the s**t follows that path of least resistance which is up the crack towards the back which leaves a mess on the seat.

Seen so much weird gross #### in my two weeks so far in Thailand that barely anything in here measures close. I’m currently sitting on a boat to Koh Phangan and really need to go to the toilet after a 10 hour journey but I just can’t sum up the courage to go in a small, smelly hole with a small bucket of nasty water to clean up after.

I totally agree with this. I only ever brush my teeth with mouthwash for this reason. The bristles provide just a perfect place for bacteria to grow and multiply, but if it effectively gets an antibacterial scrub once a day then it's bound to be a bit more hygienic.

Still, if that was true, toothbrush heads would be all mildew-ey and slimy gross. As long as you rinse off your toothbrush after and it dries and doesn't stay damp the whole day, it should be okay. I suppose dunking it in some mouthwash would be a double-whammy though if bacteria is a concern.
