Yeah, I think so. Is it me, or did the zone-entry on the powerplay look a tonne better in the China games than it has in NA?

Yeah, you and I debated this very briefly in another thread. It seems the back pass is almost too far back the last few games and the Flames players are also flat footed and not really giving Johnny any options/support.

Wow - apparently we were 57.4% in the faceoff dot last night.
Strong side faceoffs all day, son.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Re: PP
I expect it to come together. Ward has a great track record and practice time hasn't been as plentiful what with the China trip in there to start. I'll bet within a few weeks from the start of the season they're clicking. Especially with a set line up.

As someone who has never played hockey, can someone explain why handedness and side of the ice matters on faceoffs?

It's easier to win a faceoff on your backhand

Haynes had a good section on it in one of his FF80F articles:
http://www.flamesfrom80feet.ca/2018/...g-finally.html
Quote:
First thing [Conroy] pointed out is it's the position of the official that matters most. Going back to those late-game face-offs against Buffalo, with the draw taking place to Smith's right in the defensive zone, the linesman dropping the puck is to the right of Brouwer. As a right shot, what makes Brouwer on his strong side is his ability to turn quickly (clockwise) as the puck is dropped and to be able to do so unimpeded by the official, who is standing on the opposite side of where he's turning. Of course, he's doing that while simultaneously trying to pull the puck back with his backhand.
“You feel so good on your strong side because the big thing is the ref isn't in your way. You can spin your body and you have more leverage,” explains Conroy. “If I go to push the other way, it doesn't give me as much strength and leverage. That's the thing that makes the difference."

You have a lot more power and a better angle on your back hand when taking a faceoff. So typically a lefty will do better when drawing it back to his left, and a right handed player back to his right.

Were the China games on international sized ice? If so then that would have made it easier I would think.
