For sure guys, and I'm not trying to be a wet blanket.
Step one is to dominate in the games against peers ... not every player accomplishes that step, and many high pedigree players are on that fail list.
Step two is with and against NHL competition in games that have a spread of talent.
Step three is the final few preseason games with full rosters.
Can't get to step three without nailing step one.

Everyone is using the argument that we haven't seen him against NHL rosters. That is true for this season. Last season however he went deep into camp and played well, and he is obviously a much better player this year. I personally think the kid will continue to show he is ready against NHL rosters. People are also worried about rushing or "bennetting" him. They are different players, Dube has more development time then Sam did when he make the roster. Dube is also a much smarter player and he is gleaming with confidence right now and confidence can go along way.

I think if he shows well against tougher competition you have to find him a spot. He adds so much to the bottom six for now and seems to have top six upside.
Hathaway is the logical #13.
The only issue for me is Mangiapane. If Dube is in, barring injury there's not enough spots. He also seems very ready.
Treliving says these things have a way of working themselves out - but in this case, might help facilitate a trade to help the team elsewhere. Who knows.

If he keeps playing this way throughout camp and standing out as one of the best players on the ice every game. He makes the team.

Gaudreau was a lot older and more accomplished and had far more skill and showed his brilliance in the exhibition season.
After 5 games of regular season he had no points. He was benched for games 6 and came back and came back with a goal and assist.
His competition to join Hudler, Monahan and Backlund in the top 6 were Mason Raymond, Joe Colbourne and David Jones.
Dube has no such margin for adjustment. He will not get a lot of ice-time with good players. He will be force to make an impression in the NHL playing 8 minutes on the 4th line.
Pretty much safer for him to start in the AHL and see where he is after 10-20 games ...
It is also dependent on injuries/ disappointments of the players ahead of him on the depth chart.
Flames top 7 are set and Jankowski/Bennett/Czarnik/Frolik make to top-11 pretty hard to break into.
Does he make the team's 12 spot as a fighter/ penalty killer?

I think it goes without saying that he needs to keep it up so it doesn't need to be stated in the question. I look at the question as if he keeps it up, do we make room for him this season or still start him in the AHL.

until we see him against actual NHL competition I'm going to hold my water. He's done great so far and earned more time, he might have even earned a 9 game shot, but lets make sure he's good to go before we push him into a top 9 slot.

I really like Dube's speed, he is very fast with the puck and without it. Other then JG I am not sure they have enough of that element, the Flames are still not a fast team and i believe he brings something to the game that they do not have enough of right now.
Is he a second line centre? I don't know about that but they will not be successful until they push Backlund down to the third line.

Agreed but there are many saying he's already earned a spot, which I don't see.

As has been stated, the 9 game audition (as it relates to contract status) is not relevant for Dube. If he plays pro, he burns a year regardless.

I hope so! That worked out well and with the NHL roster the way it is Flames don't need to be in a rush.
Nice to see Dube's compete level coming in as advertised.

Sorry, I mistated, I know the 9 game shot doesn't matter, but even if he makes the team out of camp for example, give him the first 9 games as a hard line for him being able to compete in a NHL regular season slit and set a hard evaluation for that type of audition.

I think we could see a case of Dube, Mangiapane and Andersson pushing out some vets. Foo is close as well but I don't think he's quite there yet. Hathaway (minors/13th forward), Lazar (waivers/trade/minors), Bennett (Trade), Stone (Trade), Kulak (7th D) etc.
Still early in pre-season but I've liked the progression of those 3 players. Dube - top 6 potential, Mangiapane - middle 6 potential, Andersson - top 4 potential. If they need more time in the minors that's fine but they are all very close. Should also hopefully push the vets that they are chasing on to be better.

I'm honestly not sold that Dube is the guy from that team either. Mangiapane hasn't put up the counting stats (hat trick), but his numbers are off the charts for what gets done when he's on the ice.
Both small left shooting wingers ... they may see Mangiapane as a more logical progression and let Dube get his feet wet.
Very good problem to have.

True, but the Cancks also had several veterans and 7 of their usual top 10 prospects in the line up (Demko, Gaudette, Juolevi, Lind, Gadjovich, Dipietro, Palmu) and yet, were still schooled by the Flames’ top prospects.
Obviously it’s just 1 game. But still nice to see the league’s 29th ranked farm system (the athletic) beat the #2 farm system handily.
