You have to give to get yea, make it a pure 1 for 1 hockey trade. Bring back an equally established winger/centre - not more question marks.

Sorry, are we talking about trading Mark Giordano all of a sudden? He's the only all-star defenseman we have. Dougie's never been given that honor.

Timing of this rumour is interesting. Now EL knows if he doesn't sign a reasonable extension, he might have a new home in Calgary.
Also, just watching those Lindholm highlights and all I keep thinking is holy crap Aho can dish!
I'll take Aho please!

both Aho and Teravainen are awesome. The Canes actually have a solid young core to build around.

Again, we all know how well Dougie played this year and nobody is taking that away from him. However given the smoke I think some of you may need to get your life vests out and realize your Hamilton boat may be sinking.
It's starting to sound like there's a very good chance he wont be on the Flames next season, so rather then get upset at posters who are trying to come up with some idea's for what they'd like to see Calgary get back given a Hamilton trade, think about it yourself and start preparing for a post Dougie Flames roster. The constant bickering of HOW good Hamilton is is running dry, we've heard it 1000x times now and have seen it for ourselves. He's a great top 2 D man on the Flames, but it sounds like there's underlying issues here that the Flames see as a problem and so his name is out there as available.
Deep breaths everyone, trading Hamilton for other assets wont single handily make or break the Flames season, some of you seem to act as if Dougie's the glue to the entire roster and sadly it couldn't be further from the truth.

Dougie gets thrown in a lot as he's a very valuable piece to 31 teams in the NHL, and it's PLAUSIBLE that Treliving could deal from a position of strength. It's pretty exciting to talk about big names moving around, but I'd be surprised to see Perry or Krug moved as well.
But I think any trade involving Hamilton has to be an overpayment as there's no way Treliving is going to lose a trade with a stud defenceman playing how he hoped he'd be playing when he picked him up. Reports like to add his name as speculation, but I would be surprised if Treliving is too interested in any calls that involve Dougie.
What it does it at least starts the negotiation, which is great. If player 'x' is available and they want defencemen for him, that's a great call coming into his office.

I'm surprised people are excited about the prospect of trading Hamilton for two lesser players. And let's make no mistake here, Lindholm and Hanifin are significantly lesser players than Hamilton. How often do teams win player trades when they are the ones giving up the most valuable piece?
Even doing Brodie straight up for just Lindholm isn't really enticing for me. Brodie has almost outscored Lindholm over the last 4 years as a defenceman.

I am not too keen on this trade.
Maybe Treliving can pull off Brodie+Bennett for Hanifin+Lindholm

I think Brodie will be hard to trade with his '8 Team no trade list', not sure if Carolina would make that list or not. I know people are nervous to trade Hamilton to Carolina because we would be giving up the best player in the trade.
What about Hamilton + Shore for Lindholm and the 2OA pick?

Brodie for Lindholm makes absolutely no sense for Carolina. They have Faulk, Hanifin, Slavin, Pesce, Bean and Fleury ... if anything, they should flip a defenseman for a forward, not the other way round.

If Lindholm doesn't take a step forward and the 2OA doesn't turn into much we're pretty unhappy with this trade.

Unless if it is a young forward who is already a star in the league (Aho on the Canes), then I am not personally interested in moving Hamilton

True, but if you don't want take a flyer on the 2OA you could swap it + something to Buffalo for ROR or maybe to Toronto for Nylander. It would have good value.
You could end up with at Top 6 of:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - ROR - Bennett
or
Gaudreau - Monahan - Nylander
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm

I know you’re being facetious but I think (my opinion is...) it would better for the Flames long term to trade Giordano instead of Hamilton. In the mean time, Brodie or Hamifin could slide in perfectly alongside Hamilton. My preference would be Brodie with Hamilton because Brodie-Hamonic did not work and Hamilton is good enough to make a Brodie-Hamilton pair work.

According to Natural Stat Trick Lindholm's 1.46 PT/60 (5v5) was the 8th best among Carolina's forwards last year. For perspective Bennett and Jankowski were both 1.41 and the 7th/8th best on the Flames.
Let's not get carried away thinking we would be getting an immediate impact top 6 forward in Lindholm if this deal goes down. We will be getting a young top 9 player who may develop into an impact in the top 6 in the future.
To me if I'm Tre, I only make this deal if I believe Hanifin will be better defensively than Hamilton and know that I am likely conceding the best offensive defensemen now and in the future.
