Apparently not.
3 year deal when it was signed from the scuttlebutt.

Taking a while to get to 5000

1) Not sure anyone knows for sure what GG's contract status is
2) Regardless of whether there is time left or not, there is going to be a change barring some miracle run that gets them in

Tim Hunter is my leading candidate.
Would be interested in Shedon Keefe as another young option.
Kirk Muller and Kevin Dineen would be my two veteran options.

The flying V might be a better tactic at this point.

Can we be sure that Chicago will fire Q? I don't see how the Hawks' decline is his fault.

Not at all.
If there is any thought about doing so on Bowmans part, I would suggest that it may come down to the exit interviews after the season.
Talk with the vets on the club and see where the temperature is on what went wrong in their eyes. Pure speculation on my part but to a man I'm guessing they will all say that Q was not the issue or at least not enough of the problem to warrant dismissal.
On top of that he is one of the highest paid coaches in the game and still has 2 years left on his contract. They would have to pay that out if they fired him.

I personally would love if they got JQ, but I think Dave Tippett should get some serious consideration.

Just to repeat....

I dont think there 1 chance in a million Dave Tippett is in Calgary next season or ever as long as BT is here.
Don Maloney was Trelivings mentor. Gave him his big break to get into the management side of the NHL...a very elite and small club. Maloney taught him and groomed him well enough that BT then got his own team. For that, BT will forever be loyal to Maloney and rightfully so.
So when Tippett made a power play for Maloneys job last year, IMO it completely sealed his fate to work with anyone in the Maloney management tree. A guy who had hired DT and kept him safe through some bad seasons as well as decent ones, and was stabbed in the back. Guys like that aren't usually welcomed back by those who were victimized.
At least this is how I understand what happened and if thats the case then DT will be no where near this club at this point.

I could be reading it entirely wrong, as that wouldnt be unusual, but the logic is sound.

You must answer a couple skill testing questions to be considered for the job.
1) If you have a d man who is trajecting upwards but can only play one side of the ice, will you take him and force him to play the other side?
2) Its 2-2, 2:00 left. You have your timeout if need be. Do you send your 4th line on the ice?
3) The other teams scores multiple goals in less than 10 minutes and you find yourself on a hope and a prayer. Do you call a timeout? Do you change goalies? Do you look at your ipad for an answer?
4) Your PP is a so bad it is almost funny. Do you try to change things up before the mid point in the season or preach to keep sticking with it?
5) On a scale of 1-10, how good do you feel when the final buzzer goes and you still have your timeout?

Paging Sureloss...
Can coaches not be traded along with their salary or do they essentially sign a no movement / trade clause with their contract? I feel like I have heard about coaches being given permission to talk to another team before??

All the time.
They are still under contract though. If Quenneville is fired he can go where ever he likes but the Hawks still have to pay him those 2 years unless they retain him in another position within the organization. JQ may have a clause in his deal that prevents even that from happening however.

I agree, they may be dipping this season but they will be right back in it before you know it!

At least Tim Hunter knows a thing of two on how to beat the Oilers or how to beat them up!

I'm going to be very disappointed and not at all surprised when the summer comes and goes with zero mention of a coaching change from Flames management.

Yep, I have a sinking feeling that it will head in this direction. Minor lineup changes over the summer and a very underwhelming free agent signing or two. Rinse and repeat for the same results in 18/19

If this happens then I hope the Dome is empty or filled with boo's.
We are not Oilers fans and won't accept a ####ty team for a decade.

My concern is that management looks at the Jets model and thinks they can stick with the same coach and pull off something similar to the Jets this year. I really don't see that working well in Calgary.
