I'll outright admit, I really didn't want us going after any goalies at the TD.
But I also didn't think we'd still be waiting for Smith right now.
If they miss, I think Bennett and Brodie should be on the block. Not cause I don't think they're any good, but they've both plateaued and could use a change of scenery while we could use some more scoring help/assets.

Half this place has been clamouring for Gillies for at least a year now and has rated him way too high the past couple of prospect rankings. Well, you got him, and unfortunately he's not very good. Then those same people trash BT for not giving up even more future assets for a backup goalie, totally ignoring the fact that Smith is day to day.

Super cool story, bro. But I think it might be better suited to the PGT here:

I would have roasted him for such a move. I am still glad he didn't.
I thought he was going to pick up a depth defenseman to replace Bart too. Would not have liked that either.
Maybe it's good to see what we have. It's a little sobering.

There is a bit of a silver lining to having Rittich and Gillies play these games down the stretch. Once the season is over they will both have considerably more NHL experience than they did a season ago and both should now have a measuring stick to work on deficiencies in the offseason. There's no doubt goaltending has not been good enough as of late but the way the first line is playing right now I'm not so sure that Smith would be making a big difference for team as tonight's game was an offensive explosion (for this team) at 3 goals scored.

Gillies had a rough game. I would definitely go with Rittich in Buffalo.

Yep. This team can't win without those guys on the scoreboard.
Crosby was held scoreless too with only one shot but that team is much deeper and better.

Tre not making any moves at the deadline is reassuring for me. Means he is seeing the same things we are and this team needs a reset before they are actually ready for a run. This off-season: coach is fired and Tre gets his second swing and a chance to make a couple other moves..... I think Tre is a smart guy and has learned a lot this season. He knows he needs to be better.

I resemble that comment.
But I’m already looking forward to the next rebuild, that’s one of the reasons not having a pick this summer is going to suck. No draft drama.

Yeah, but at the same time, if we'd given Rittich more starts earlier, we would have realized quickly he wasn't ready for that kind of play time (Obviously not really Tre's fault). Hindsight of course, but I almost wish we had started him a bit more so that we could have addressed the now apparent need.
I was worried about a Smith injury all year because I wasn't sure where exactly our goalie prospects were at. Unfortunately we've found out the hard way.

There are many other obvious choices. The trade may look terrible in hindsight if the team misses the playoffs but it was a calculated risk at the time.
My personal opinion on the position we’re in, in no specific order:
- Terrible special teams as a whole, specifically the powerplay.
- Inability to address the talent level on the bottom 6 although they’ve been better lately.
- Mike Smith getting injured. Our backups have not been good since he went down.
- As Kent Wilson put it, “the shocking decline of TJ Brodie”. Although this goes back a couple of seasons.
- Some absurd coaching decisions but I don’t think the team has quit on GG.
- Johnny and Monny disappearing at the absolute worst time.
Anyways, Hamonic is on a great contract with term remaining, he’s rock solid defensively and those guys don’t come cheap.

I am not saying Hamonic is the reason why the Flames are undwhelming this year, I am saying he is player you pay for when you have all your peices in play and ready to make a run at the Cup. Treliving overvalued his assets and mortgaged what will be most likely a very good prospect this year, plus 2 2nd round picks. If you don’t think those 2 2nds are valuable just look at the prospects the flames acquired in the 2nd round the last 3 years.
We will be looking at the players picked around those spots in the next 3-5 years and be kicking ourselves for getting rid of those picks. We laugh at the Oilers trading the pick that ended up being Barzal but with the way Treliving has been dishing out picks it’s only a matter of time till we have the egg on our face.

And? Good for him, he has two teams to cheer for big whoop. I don't want to read about how he'll watch his other team in the playoffs in the PGT where mine just lost.

We get it...but the deal is done and its not like Hamonic is a rental. He is still an asset that can be part of a successful Flames season or flipped at some point. We don't even know where the picks fall yet so there is no use in freaking out.
5 teams traded firsts at the deadline for rentals and one team is winning the cup...not even necessarily one of those teams.

To be fair the PGT right after a loss isn't really the place to brag about the Pathers amazing surge (ironically 4 points behind the Flames who are on life support, FU East)
