We really need to hold off unless the price is right. I feel like our scoring woes are from not switching up the line combos during the game. Just by my own view, we tend to score when we mix up things a little during the game. Sometimes, GG doesn't even do that.

The cutoff for the playoffs is likely to be 96 points so that means this team needs 27 of the remaining 44 available points to make it.

I think it's worse to trade away assets and end up missing the playoffs than it is to stand pat and make the playoffs. I think this team should stick to what they have.

All roads tend to point to Hoffman. It makes so much sense for the flames. Let’s hope brad agrees

So let's say Brad trades away picks and/or prospects to get Hoffman and the Flames still miss the playoffs or get rolled in the first round. Will we still look back and say it was worth it?

Didn't we learn from the Sutter years that trading away picks and prospects at the trade deadline just gets you nowhere ?????????

Like everything, depends on the cost. He is only 28, and is signed through 2019-20. It won't be like trading for a rental. You also have a chance to re-sign him to a more cap-friendly deal that makes sense when you look at the rest of the roster on the Flames, something that a free agent from another team would not pay much attention to.

I am fine with the Flames staying pat, and I am fine with them making a move for the longer term. I just don't want a rental, and I don't want to overpay.

If the Flames miss the playoffs, the entire house needs to be cleaned.

New coach, new GM at the least, maybe a new POHO. Unforgivable to miss the playoffs with this roster especially after going all in.

The team is so close to being good but just can’t/won’t put it together.

Team should make a move and go for it this year and for next year before the current contracts of Tkachuk, Ferland and etc are up. These 2 are going to get paid and we should take advantage of their lower cap hits now.

Also, it should be painfully obvious to Treliving by now that the current team he has assembled cannot consistently put the puck in the net. That’s why this team is so reliant on winning 1 goal games or nail bitters.

Team is too top heavy and can’t seem to score unless Gaudreau and rest of the 1st line is on the ice. Tkachuk has picked up a lot of goals as of late, but the majority of them has been scored on the PP with Gaudreau on the ice. The fact that he’s still figuring in on over 40% is completely absurd. Only 2 other guys are doing the same thing for their teams (McDavid & Eichel) and they’re way out of the playoffs.

Too bad the ownership and upper management as well as the coaching staff can't be traded, the culture of mediocrity can only be purged starting from the top...

So you say this roster is too good not to make the playoffs but you want to fire the GM that assembled it?

This won't be a popular post but I wish flames had held of in Backlund signing. deadline is a week away and a couple of more losses could really make it hard to get in . They could have told Backlind they would sign him in the summer after getting a good haul for him at deadline. If he didn't like that scenario I would have been fine with just trading him. I am not a fan of the term he got .

Too many futures have already been moved out for the 2017/2018 edition of the Calgary Flames. The GM needs to suck it up and deal with the aftermath when the season expires whether that be immediately after the regular season or playoffs as you can't continue doubling down on something that's simply not working and it's a bit of a stretch to think that one player is going to come in an fix what ails this team as the issues are deep from poor coaching, lack of 2nd line scoring support, and poor play by key defensemen like Brodie. Treliving's job should be done for the remainder of the regular season as all he can do now is sit back and hope that his coach can get the team into the playoffs. It's all on Gulutzan and his staff now as this team was assembled to make the playoffs before the season began and they have managed to be relatively injury free so there's no excuses for him.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here but I think most of us are ok with the term because a) cap will likely increase by years 5/6 and b) that contract is built around a 3 year window where the flames think they can truly contend.

Moving backlund would make us so weak down the middle and would throw off the chemistry of the entire forward group. Im sure management looked at it and realized that in no realistic possible way does trading backlund make this team better for not only this year but for the next (at least) 4 as well. And if you think draft picks and prospects would help in the long run I mean sure, but why not try to win now not I. 4 years

So if the Flames lose the next two and other teams pick up points. Do the Flames become sellers?

Slowly coming to terms with the idea that the Flames aren't going to make the playoffs this year, so while I voted buy (someone with term, no rentals), I would be perfectly fine now if they just stood pat.

Why would you want to do this? Trading away current roster players for picks makes absolutely no sense right now. If we make this deal, how long would it be before those players became impact players on our roster? Likely never ( we'd probably get 2nd and 3rd rounders). And if even if they did, players picked within that range typically take a few years to develop... so, likely net effect of trading Frolik and Stone for pics: Team becomes worse in the short term and maybe in 2-4 years we have a couple of decent players to show for it.

I'm thinking sell. I'm not thinking break it all down though. Brouwer has got to be good on somebody's team. Maybe Stajan can be helpful depth on a strong Cup contender. Maybe Stone can be moved for a pick or prospect and allow Andersson a chance to get some NHL playing time. Just small tinkering. Maybe something larger like Bennett can be traded for something that helps immediately and long term, but we'd have to sell high. We're not dumping any of these guys just to get rid of them... well, except for maybe Brouwer! Okay, truthfully, maybe Stone too, but I just want to get rid of him to give Andersson a chance to get some NHL playing time in.

I wouldn't be against adding but it would have to be for long term players, not rentals.

Holding would be fine with me too. Draft day is where Treliving does his biggest amount of work. It makes sense since the prices are always higher at deadline day.
