The bad, the Flames lost. The good, they legitimately made Oilers fans squirm after a 6-1 lead.

Hopefully this drills into the flames coaching and management's heads that something needs to be adjusted on D. Fingers crossed..
The loss would at least serve the team well for the future if it ends up being a wake up call to the people in charge.

I can't help but think that this is two non factor teams playing a non factor game.

If there's any sort of silver lining tonight, its that Sam Bennett actually sniped a goal (his second one tonight). I don't think he even has an average NHL shot so it was nice to see him score off the rush like that (hasn't happened much his first few seasons).

You don’t get “props” for a “comeback” when you were (once again) not prepared to start the game in the first place.
The way they started this game was playing nervous and expecting to lose.
So, where does the impetus lie? Vets? Leadership group? Coaching staff?
I’m getting tired with the inconsistency. It’s inexcusable at this point: these players should know what kind of effort is required.

Give the team another 4-5 games before another debacle. Rinse and repeat.

I don't see a player that plays on the 1st PP unit, regularly leads the team in TOI and pinches too often to be lacking confidence. It's almost the opposite, like he is too cocky and gets away from a simple effective game trying to do too much.

You would think scoring 5 goals at home, you would come away with a win. On the surface, anyone who only looks at the final score could say must have been a pretty good game. Brossoit let in 2 stinkers that allowed the Flames to creep back in and make the final score at least respectable. This was not a pretty good game. The Flames made it very interesting in the 3rd, but that does not make up for an overall shoddy performance against their biggest rival. When the score became 6 - 4 then 6 - 5, I was pumped like anyone here. I was still frustrated by the game they played tonight. The final own-goal was the icing on the cake.
As much as I want to believe GG is a good coach, there are so many personnel decisions made here and there that make me wonder what I am not seeing that he and his coaches do. How does TJ Brodie go from being a solid 2-way D-man with Gio a couple of seasons ago to what we are seeing now? Is playing away from Gio and on the left side that big a deal to this guy? I am not ready to give up on him, Hamonic or Hamilton, but wow, there have been some sub par performances from these guys this season. Yes, I know, that is putting mildly on some nights.
I bet the Oil wishes they could play the Flames 20 times per season the way things have gone since GG has been behind the Flames bench. Is that just luck (bad for us, good for them) that they have really done well vs the Flames since GG came on board? I am not laying all blame on GG, but there is just something amiss with this Flames team. Maybe it's the homer sunglasses that I think the Flames should be better than the team we are watching this season. I really have no idea which Flames team will show up on a given night. It's just unfortunate that tonight was the we-don't-remember-how-to-play-defense-all-that-well-making-boneheaded-mistakes team that showed up.
They were so bad, they made the Oil look good. Should I give credit where is due? Were the Oil just that good tonight? They outplayed the Flames. However, no way was that the Flames best game by any stretch. Not even close. I'm not one for knee-jerk reactions, but boy, a look in the mirror or two are in order for some members of this organization.
Excuse the length of this post. Have yourselves a good one guys and gals.

I really enjoyed Cassie Campbell tonight and thought she's really coming into her own.
Your thread was garbage and it absurd how much complaining there is about broadcasters.

It's beyond comprehension how the team is so flat to begin the game. Bennett said they were dipping their toes. How does that happen?
The D zone is a mess. Once pressured it's certain the opposition gets a grade A chance. They sucked so bad tonight it's completely unwatchable. Figure it out. It's just incredible the highs and lows the team can go through.
Hard to defend them with such a poor display.

Not a hard decision for GG. If he shakes things up and it works he looks good. If it doesn't work out he was right for sticking with his pairings. No reason not to do it. Watching games night in night out with Smith making one incredible save after another is getting old. He is the MVP of this team so far this year. Without him we are a bottom feeder. I hope changes will come soon. With Smith's success, we have an ok record. His great play is actually camoflaging our ineptness. If he doesn't stand on his head most nights, we're in big trouble right now. Oh well, 4th line was better tonight.
