You know this is the same team that is two years removed from the worst finish in franchise history I believe.
They have improved by leaps.and bounds. Maybe they just aren't world beaters and being merely playoff Calibre will have to do until they get some better players? As a flames fan I will take it and so should you.
What is the basis for believing this team is better than their statistical output or record? This is arguably the best Gaudreau and Monahan have ever played, and Smith has been great. Brodie is on pace to break his career totals. Is this team the Pittsburgh penguins? Can a comparison to a mid season coaching change for the penguins be anything short of laughably absurd?
Let's live in reality here.

Just kidding, I get CFL isn't for everybody. But the Grey Cup is Canada's biggest sporting event. Sure would have been nice for Calgary to win it.
|
That could be very true Strange Brew, but keep in mind I am not a flames fan for the reason of it being a Calgary team. I have always just cheered for the Flames. Notwithstanding the fact I dont cheer for any other Calgary based team. Hence, the Grey cup win or loss makes no difference me. I would rather have a Flames victory!
I dont hate the CFL, its just not a big deal to me. I watch it and can enjoy it, but its not a passion/care for me like other leagues. Heck, when i watch it, i dont even cheer for the Stamps anyways, as i have a team i prefer instead.
Anyways back on topic.....yes the Flames need to step it up.

The PGT this year have been the equivalent to the drunk chick at a party...You should avoid them at all costs.

Would've been nice if someone told Treliving Brouwer was a drunk girl at a party.

I haven’t seen a defensively sound team considering the focus on acquiring d man even compared to what they did last year goalies not withstanding. More often than not I haven’t seen a team that looks prepared either that can and should be improved. That is the reality. You said it yourself certain players are putting up the best numbers of their career and we’re barely clinging to a wildcard spot. They are in a window I don’t think we sit on another year happy to be a first round out. Some of us want to see some progression.

Even after a loss these PGTs should be good discussions and at least a tiny bit of insight of what can improve, what happened, good, bad, maybe even the odd compliment, etc.
Now the negativity has just kind of taken over. I get that after a loss (especially after ugly games) there will be some negativity (I'm guilty of it too like everyone else), but I see the same things being posted over and over and over and over again. I don't see as much discussion anymore, just the same people making sure we all know who to blame is.
This is a decent team. But.....they will lose games. They're not unbeatable. They're not Cup favorites. If you think they are maybe take the expectations down a bit. This is supposed to be a fun place to discuss things. Maybe after we all make one horribly negative post we just leave it at that and discuss some other part of the team instead of making sure we all know how terrible a player or coach is over and over again?
Thursday is a new game. Let's have some fun discussing hockey again. It shouldn't be this painful discussing our favorite team after every game they play.

And every other comment is bitching about the comments. This team has been painful to watch many nights which leads to frustration. This frustration is due to the Flames selling their fans that they were going all in for the next several seasons, especially after acquiring Hamonic and boasting what should be a top end defense. This defense has been garbage and so have many players on this team. Team has underachieved to start the year again in a year where the division is wide open. This is why some people are angry, watching this team in their own end is a nightmare. There is discussion about the team going on, would you like us to blow sunshine up their asses? They've been blown out and hilariously blew games like the Canuck and Dallas game which were both ridiculously unacceptable. They lose Saturday and GG should be on the hot seat.

It’s not the coach’s fault that Hamonic stinks, that we signed Brouwer for a ton of money and that the 4th line is worse than most of the Flames’ AHL roster.
Move Hamonic to the bottom pair, revamp the 4th line with AHL talent and the Flames will be a better team.

Don’t look now, but those are the Oilers in the rear view mirror, and they are getting closer.
Treliving is slow to acknowledge his mistakes, and Gulutzan is the biggest one he’s made to date, and Tre has made a few good ones. He needs to learn to process quicker, recognize mistakes, and act to remedy his errors. Gulutzan has to go.

Really though the GM went all in on this season. All they have left of the 2018 draft as of today is a 3rd, (2) 4th's, 6th, 7th. He's already given up a few picks of the 2019 draft as well. If the expectations are too high someone needs to tell the GM quickly because it appears he doesn't know what he's doing.

blaming bad luck or bad bounces is always a bit lame.
the team that got the bounces was the team that worked the hardest and had the best game plan and stuck to it.
this was a game where the team that got the bounces earned them.

This team's frustrating inconsistency aside, last night was always going to be a loss. First game back after a long road trip against a fast team? Guaranteed L night.

Wow some of you need to take a step back here and realize this is just going to happen sometimes. I'd say its typical to have a poor showing after a long road trip, in this case a season long 6 game trip.
I thought Smith was good as usual. Gio was good. Kulak to me was the worst of the dmen. What was he doing in the first period going for the big hit, then losing his man forcing Smith to make that insane save. I don't know what it is but Kulak has not been very good the last few games.
Also, what the hell was with the ice last night? There must have been 8 or 9 times a Flames player fell out of nowhere. No Leafs fell. And interestingly Babcock said the day before the ice wasn't good after their practice.
Nobody seems to have mentioned Andersen, he made all the key saves he needed, and we didn't get any bounces.
Calm down folks, seriously.

It seems like Babcock had your first line figured out. And after that the Leafs have a huge advantage from lines 2 to 4.
The Leafs actually looked very flat this game on the offensive end. Didn't have the spark like usual. But they looked so good defensively it didn't matter.
Borgman has been an amazing pickup. He looked great tonight.
I think it's time to put Nylander back with Matthews.
|
I think the top lines playing each other kinda neutralized the excitement those lines usually bring. It was a hard game to watch for the most part.

Was there something going on in the Saddledome this past week when they were on the road? The ice never looks great but last night really did look especially bad. Why is it the other Canadian buildings seem to have much better ice?

so I had made a bet with a local radio announcer and he kinda called me out about it. It was only a $5 bet but it's more about bragging rights.
I had someone bring him a sock full of $5 worth of loose nickels and dimes.
Lousy leafs and they're lousy fans
