Sliver trying to troll the wine thread with some apothic, barefoot, copper moon love.
Has anyone ever tried a 100 percent tannat?
I want to try a couple of unusual wines over Christmas, and I ran across Artesana tannat out of Uruguay.

We legit drink wine out of boxes and we legit like Apothic more than any other wine. What's weird about that? It's delicious and affordable. My criteria for liking a wine doesn't go beyond that.
This is in my fridge right now. There is no trolling happening.
I do feel like I walked into that South Park episode I referenced.
Edit: FFS I can't seem to post a photo. Here is the imgur link to a box of wine in my fridge: https://imgur.com/a/EYFe3

Apothic wine has nothing to do with being poor or not. It's the added sugar. There are other wines that have residual sugar that are the same price point and taste better.
I just feel that apothic is doing a disservice to their own customers by making a subpar wine, and then adding sugar after the fact, to get that 'apothic taste'.
There are quite a few sweet wines to try. Honey Badger, Bostovan Bastardo, Roscoto are some places to start.

Apothic, and other wines of that ilk, are just no good. Way too much residual sugar and too little acidity. May as well tuck into a decent bottle of port instead.

Meh, I like it and I don't care if there's more sugar than other wines. Was just wondering if a guy could get a box of it somewhere, but maybe this was the wrong thread.

People should drink what they enjoy. I wish I could get equivalent enjoyment out of factory wines as I do higher end wines.

No, because you said it smugly and I pictured you farting into a wine glass and sniffing it.

It isn't sweet wines, or even cheaper wines that are the problem. Apothic is the only wine that I know of, where they add sugar. They make huge vats of left over wine bought bulk from other wineries, and then they drop 17 to 25 grams of sugar into them to make it taste 'apothic'. Something about that just rubs me the wrong way.
You might be able to make your own apothic, by buying Copper Moon for half price, and putting a tablespoon of table sugar in each glass. It's essentially the same thing.
Anyway, that's my last apothic rant. It's like when Wendy's had salad for a while, and they put sugar in the salad. And then everyone thought they had the best lettuce.

If price is the primary consideration there is a red tsantali that comes in 1 L bottles for around $12 at Coop. Buy 6 at around time for around further 10% off. Very passable.

Raises an interesting issue about sweet wines more generally. They get an (undeserved) bad rap. Not taking about Apothic, never tried - probably never will, but the idea that wine shouldn't be sweet is a strange one of you look into the history of wine.
It's really been a recent phenomenon that dry wines have dominated the wine market. Humans used to drink alot of sweet wine. It was more common than dry wine.
Anyway, there are some truly fantastic sweet wines out there. Capped by the greatest, Sauternes. The bottles are somewhat expensive, so if you have a chance at a wine festival to try some Sauternes, you absolutely should. I've been fortunate enough to try some Chateau D'Yquem, long regarded as the best Sauternes. It is truly amazing wine.

Not a fan of these sweeter reds but LOVE sweet whites - they'll always be in my cellar. There isn't anything much better than a good Sauternes or Riesling Auslese. They're sweet but you get that balanced finish - not syrupy.
Also have to say that Riesling is the king of white grapes for me. So much variety in the spectrum of dry to sweet wines.

At that point you just have to play the AA card.

Will look for this. I have tried a couple different new wines from Costco, and didn't care that much for them, in terms of value anyway. At least as interested interested in value for the $ than actual cost. Guess I need to do my homework.
