I think Brouwer is such a mistake I'd have been willing to move a grade A prospect to get out from underneath his contract.

The Flames' prospect pool is the best it's been in years. They have the second-most prospects playing in the World Juniors of any team and Stockton is near the top of their division.

They may not have many picks, but the future looks incredibly bright.

Fair enough . I think that is insanity though and would result in instantly being fired .

What would you then do with the cap savings? There weren’t great FAs last season we missed out on.

We actually aren’t in a lot of cap trouble per se

Criticized? Yes

At this point Brouwer's best outcome is 4th line role player who does not cost his team, which he's done in brief stretches.

His downside is significant.

What do I do with the cap space? I sit back and wait. Opportunities in the trade market will open up.

so stupid, Stajan is gone after this season. If certain players would have stepped up Stajan would be in the press box anyway

2014, 2015, 2016 the Flames picked in the 2nd round twice and added a core member with their first rounder as well (trading 2015 for Dougie). Andersson, Kylington, Dube, Parsons are 4 of the organizations top prospects.

Hard to see 9 NHLers being in the system right now for the Flames, although I suppose it is possible. I think any objective fan can at least acknowledge that Feaster was better at stockpiling the system.

I really like Tre as a GM, but he will be judged on how he manages this GG failure. He has been able to pull the trigger won deals no one thought possible. However his gambles on brouwer and hamonic might be catastrophic.

Even if the islanders don't get a lottery pick, the equivalent of: Valimaki, Dube, Anderson and Kylington could easily be his downfall (I understand that I am cherrypicking recent flames draft picks...)
