I was thinking that about Bartkowski too. A few weeks ago he was just AHL fodder who was basically a footnote from the Iginla trade. And now we are all apparently fairly comfortable with him stepping into a top 4 role for the homestretch to try and win a chance at home ice.

Crazy how things can change.

Every Flames playoff run needs a good skating AHL guy to step up. 2004 Montador, 2015 Schelmko, and now 2017 Bartkowski.

Bartkowski can play with a little edge too. Holding your own in a fight with Ott is not easy to do.

While I have no issue with it and love the grit shown, holding is definitely the key word on that one.

It doesn't really matter where Wideman slots in. If his name is on any roster we deliver to the refs before a game, we're doomed.

I wish Wideman would just donate the rest of his pay check to the refs.

Can we pretend Wideman is a new Eastern European import player?

Sennid Namediw?

I assume since they miss so many calls "accidentally" when Wideman is in the line-up, they're surely stupid enough to miss that.

Right?...

considering that at the moment both players are considered day to day the Flames match up against the Jets on Saturday could be worse. the Jets have lost their last two games. The Jets also have the 4th worst goals against per game average with 3.16. The concerning part is that the Jets are 7th in goals for per game average with 2.97.

After that lets hope at least 1 d man comes back because the Penguins, Bruins match up will be tricky from a defensive perspective.

Derek said it this morning and wondered if Kostka has the tools for nowadays NHL...I would give him a game as a 6th D.

Kostka = Wideman

Decent player in sheltered minutes, but needs to have the puck on his stick. If he's defending, you're doing something wrong.

There is no way the Flames are playing Kostka. He is a -33 in the AHL. -33.

That is worse than Wideman for the full 5 years of being on the Flames roster (-32 combined over those 5 years)

Sounds like Dougie won't be out long. As long as Stone is back in time for the playoffs (and ideally a bit before to get back in the groove) I'll be happy.

Stone really has been a great pickup. Cost next to nothing and he's been stable defensively and even able to chip in a bit offensively. Was nice to see him get his first as a Flame last night!

If one of Stone or Hamilton are back I think we'll be okay.

Just keep whoever they call up on the bottom pairing with heavily sheltered minutes.

If they're both gone that would be an absolutely brutal blow.

I agree,
Also the amount of time is a significant factor. If both players are hurt for the Jets game it still might be winnable. But if both player are missing after that it would be devastating.

Yeah, I can't see us beating the Pens and Bruins without both of them. Schedule is pretty tough after Winnipeg on Saturday.

Roger Millions @RogMillions
Spoke to Dougie Hamilton this am. Quite upbeat does not appear to be a long term issue. Further examination underway. #Flames
