He's 22.......
The wrong direction would have been acquiring Iginla or any other rental.

I've started a thread on "Who's gonna be the first Flame traded by the deadline" a month or so ago. I don't believe anyone here had guessed Jokipakka (unless I'd missed it when it went astray). Funny, how unpredictable these things have become in NHL.

Well, all the hand-wringing about Wideman can finally end. Hopefully they just tell him to stay home.

I think this signals that the Flames will make (or already have made) an arrangement with Vegas for Vegas to sign Engellend as the Flames contribution to their squad.
Now all that's left for is for Vegas to trade us the rights to make a selection from the Oilers.

There can be upside and still be a bad deal. This certainly isn't a good deal.

Love it. upside is way higher than 2nd round pick. Even if he Flames out it is likely he will have contributed more than the 2nd rounder.

2nd round picks usually have strong trade value at the draft. Pretty decent return for Ottawa considering he would be waiver wire fodder next year? Or is he exempt for another year?
Kind of think we could have gotten more for that 2nd rounder.

Ehh. Not really impressed with this one. I don't see who Lazar displaces. If you say Chiasson, I don't see a need to spend a second rounder for a fourth liner.

Jesus, This kid has pedigree, give him a dam chance. Hes also is the right age for the group.
For a Organization that has made a ton of picks in last couple drafts you can spend a second on a kid like this.

I didn't like the deal at first but then I saw that the Scorpion hated it so now I like it. As long as he doesn't buy a Lazar jersey we are good.

Shouldn't more people be excited since this means Brouwer likely will be left unprotected now?

A lot of time top prospects who are expected to be top end scorer sand don't get labelled as busts. A lot of times these players move on to a different team with less expectations and a different role and excel.
Example - Frolik. Baby Jagr was a bust and moved on to become a very good 3rd liner and PK guy who can chip in 40-50 points
Worth the chance that he maybe finds a different role or his confidence
Justin Schultz is another good example

Powerplay Quarterback

Young player who was showing a ton of potential then fell off the face of the earth. Potential upside is solid, cost is effectively a 2nd round pick in one of the weakest draft years ever.
I personally think Lazar has more potential to be an NHLer than our 2nd round pick, so I'm ok with it. Not overly excited but not upset either. Doesn't mess with the teams chemistry in any way.

Does this mean we can't re-sign Moose anymore? Wasn't there a conditional 2nd required if we re-signed him?
