Nah, sometime in late May when we beat the Kings in the conference finals.

That sounds like there was literally no other market for him, at least to a team that Iggy would go to.

St. Louis has the easiest schedule left. Most of the teams they play are below 0.500.

Happy for Iggy that he has finally escaped Colorado. What a nightmare these last 3 years would have been for him.
Colorado needs to clean out their management team entirely, IMO. Something stinks there.

Says he won't ask or expect Gaborik to give up 12, no surprise. Will ask kids to see what number he should wear.

I think wearing 24 will be fitting.
Start and end your career with that number.

It's the ownership, not the management. Ownership mandated rules about what 2nd contracts should be worth ruined relationships with O'Reilly, strained it with Duchene, Stastny couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Bad ownership.
...that being said, yeah the GM is no good.

Of course, that return might end up being better than what the Flames got for him.
It's a Klimchuk vs. a conditional 2017 4th rounder now.

The mighty hasn't fallen, he's 40.

Should Gaborik offer it up? Quick google shows that Gaborik wore 10 for most of his career (and LA doesn't currently have a player wearing 10...)

Pretty safe assumption that the Flames management at no point in this season had any interest at all.

Seriously Iginla *IS* the face of the Flames for many(most?), beyond even Fleury, Roberts and Nieuwendyk. Certainly more so than any of the current Flames ( no disrespect meant to Gio ). A player like that would have a hard time coming back to the locker room as just another cog in the machine. Even the chance of screwing up existing chemistry was too big of a risk IMHO. Now had we NEEDED leadership and locker room chemistry, I'd have been all over the idea of bringing him back.

Or he has fallen....because he's 40. Kinda my point.
Anyways, no point dragging this out over semantics.
