Man. I liked Nakladal, but this is getting silly.

Nakladal and Grossman are not comparable. At all.

The Flames wanted a big, physical LEFT shooting Dman.

The reason Nakladal isn't here is NOT because they signed Grossman.

It's because they had three right shooting NHL Dmen already under contract in Hamilton, Wideman and Engelland.

Not to mention Brodie plays on the right side a lot too.

Nakladal wasn't coming back unless they traded Engelland or Wideman.

It's just bad timing for Nakladal ala Schlemko the year before. I mean, Schlemko would fit like a glove on the back end right now but last year there was no place for him. Nakladal looked like a decent NHL player pretty much every time he played

Agreed.

This off season both Wideman and Engelland are UFA's

If they had been UFA's this summer my bet is Nakladal would still be a Flame.

Why wait though to get rid of Wideman? They had a chance to buy him out and passed. He is going to get weak calls go against him all season and hurt this team. Add to that he is slow and sucks I think they missed out on an opportunity to make this team better. He is not NHL caliber.

IT'S ONE GAME GUYS, LETS RELAX!!!! Not everybody played good, maybe a handful were OK. Give the guy more than one game to redeem himself before we light the torches and pull out the pitchforks.

He's been awful for more than one game. Into the pre-season and years prior. Just a baffling signing.

I don't get why he has to play?

Just let him sit all season. Sure you're paying him a lot but he's going to hurt the team every time he's playing.

Grossmann is physical, sure he isn't the fastest on the ice but he is one of the only D that will hit hard. They obviously like his physicality and decided to give a shot.

Physicality, if that's all you bring, is only a good thing if you can limit your mistakes. The first goal was something that should never happen to a player like Grossman. What makes him think he can just lob it up the middle like that? Make the safe play, you're a defensive defenseman for crying out loud. I would rather an icing than that nonsense.

The second goal was an ill-advised pinch. I don't care what the Oilers 'gave' him, that's not a play he should try to make. Just dump it in or take a shot, why try the pass? Defensive defenseman are supposed to make SIMPLE plays. I don't blame Tkachuk at all, it was his first game FFS. He probably didn't expect Grossman to start rushing up doing a Giordano impersonation.

The first play was horrific. The second I think was Grossman trying too hard (to make up for the first play perhaps). I agree - that's not something he should try, ever. It wasn't just the rush, it was the weird attempt to pass through a defender.

Hopefully in a few weeks there will be an "I Like Grossman" thread.

Hopefully in a few weeks Jyrki will be playing and Grossmann will be sitting.

Not a bad signing but throwing him out there at the beginning of the season with better options available is pretty bad.

Come on guys that play was clearly on Tkachuk to cover and not on Grossman. Its not like it was Tkachuk's first game of hockey EVER, even in beer league forwards are expected to cover for defenseman.

And you can't say he didn't see him, because Grossmann is seriously big.

What beer league are you playing in? My team seems to always play a 5 forward system.

I was just going to bring this up. He looked solid for sharks last night. perfect 3rd pairing guy in this league. sharks learned their lesson vs penguins. Big dudes like Dillon and Polak are great, except when the opposing forwards have wheels.

treliving identified that talent, but just undervalued it if i recall (had on radar in july 2015 but wasn't priority).

Not sure if this was posted in here, but it says Grossman was signed purely to help the cap situation. As to why he played yesterday, maybe that had to do with the history between him and GG, but hopefully that history can come to a close.

Need to read the article, it can't really be summed up in a paragraph.
