I like that I can choose between broadcasts on NHL TV, something you can't always do on the more expensive cable packages. Blackouts only happen for me twice a year when they play the Stars, which are aired through the local Fox Sports channel.
Hope this helps. GFG!

And a VPN could help with those two games.

Do these ceremonies really need to be televised though?

I love how this thread lived long enough to be the actual GDT. Well done!

Any chance Versteeg cracks the lineup? I know he's had no practice but he might be a bit of a weapon against the team he's been training with.

Any lineups? Is Versteeg still hurt?
Thanks

The Oilers need everyone to see this, they want that national audience.
So childish though, if they want fans who aren't able to attend just stream it in their website prior to puck drop. No need to extend the game by almost an hour. 8PM start times on a weekday to accommodate the double header is annoying enough.

On the plus side, usually when the Flames are at the back end of a double header the first game runs long so at least this way we're guaranteed to see the whole game.

The Flames will win if they can get over the overpowering smell of cat urine from the Oilers mascot, and stay awake and focused after what will prove to be a boring repeat of their closing ceremony.

Exactly why I LOVE that the Oilers are doing this! I wish it were two hours.
You see, I hate the Oilers so much that I feel just my hate alone is not enough. I desire the entire world to hate the Oilers and the stupid city of Edmonton.
Well, four (4) #1 Overall Picks really helped in that cause. I kinda/sorta wish they got Matthews this year too. But this has caused even fans in Tampa who can't point to Edmonton on a map to genuinely despise the Oilers.
NOW they need to open their building for an hour on National TV? When every true hockey fan has been counting down the minutes until real NHL hockey is played...and some presumably will even keep their TVs on past 10:00pm Eastern Time to see what all the McDavid (Gaudreau) fuss is about...and instead it will be non-stop mullets!
Just perfect! I will not watch but happily stay up an extra 45-minutes if it means hundreds (maybe even thousands) of hockey fans are out-raged by how inconsiderate (and insecure) the Oiler family has become. I love it!

Normally I can see the Flames losing the opening game and I would predict such. But due to that stupid opening ceremony, I really hope it's a blowout win for the Flames and a humiliating defeat for the Oilers and everyone in attendance.
7-1 Calgary.

I'm going for a Flames 3-2 win tonight. My bold prediction is that whomever bumps into mcdavid first will have to fight lucic. Lucic breaks his hand and misses the next 6 weeks. Oilers go 2-20 in that stretch and whichever flames player, chair attendant, wayward lynx or Boy Scout that did it will immediately and forever be blamed for wrecking the oilers season. Lucic declines due to age for the balance of the contract and the person is also blamed for that.

If people want to watch the oilers opening ceremony just put the extended version on Sportsnet Oilers. No need to delay a already late game. Actually I wish they did that for all home openers, play the extended cut on the team specific channels and start earlier.

What the hell is the nhl thinking allowing a 9pm puck drop. Pretty much ensures the good chunk of eastern viewers will opt out.

On a Wednesday night no less. I know most Edmontonians with Government jobs can stroll in a few hours late but its still ridiculous.

When you're the Oilers, the highlights of the season that you want to share and commemorate usually have nothing to do with on ice play. Draft lotteries, drafts, ceremonies, press conferences, new arena announcements, etc., etc., . . . . Those have been the few shining moments for the Oilers franchise in the last decade.

Please don't forget trading away of said draft picks for magic beans when things don't "work out". We should get a retrospective tonight of yak goal cellies; it won't be large in number but it will take a while to get through the rink length slides.

Since 1997, the Flames are 2-15-1-1 (1 tie, 1 OTL) on the opening game of the season.
Some traditions need to die. This is the first one. The Honda Center later this season.
