I'm saying the Catholic church says x, y, z about sexuality, and those rules are really clear. Most Catholics do not believe what the church says about sexuality.

Yeah, there is an undeniable "Christian" view on sexuality, which like all things in every religion, is followed by a collection of people but obviously not all of the people.

I've had the pleasure of knowing more gay friendly Christians than the opposite, but that doesn't mean the opposite isn't the "official" position.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

He said most western europeans still subscribe to a christian ethos but reject their views on sexuality (like sex before marraige, gay marriage etc...)

I think the best path forward is to continue to liberalize our society and place pressure, as has long been happening, for the religions to reform and adjust interpretations of the clearly outdated, dangerous and discriminatory doctrines in their texts to become more modern and benign.

Some religions, religious institutions and religious societies are further ahead than others in this regard. Empower reformers and moderates and contain fundamentalism and extremism.

Banning religious garb is a relatively superficial distraction from the more important tasks at hand.

Christianity is a religion of freedom, and the long road required to focus that freedom on goodness and godliness.

Sexuality was historically treated as the easiest, and most forgivable shortfall.
